From the Classroom -  D3 (Rick)

The students of D3 have settled in well into school routine. This week in writing we are learning about writing behaviours through exploring narratives.

We have been focusing on how to:

  • identify and draw the characters.
  • identify the setting and problem.
  • explain what happened in the beginning, middle and end of the story.
  • perform a short story.

Pig the Pug by Aaron Blabey has been the basis of our narratives. We have read and listened to the story. After that we discussed and shared ideas about the characters, setting, beginning, middle and end. We all agreed that Pig was very mean to Trevor by not wanting to share his toys. We also thought it was funny seeing Pig all bandaged up at the end, though we hope he gets better soon.

After sharing and discussing the story, we set to work to do our own version of the story. This involved each student drawing their own ideas of what happened. Then we were able to retell the story orally to a partner.

Later this week, we will make paper puppets of Pig and Trevor to perform the story to our class. We will also focus on having a go at writing what happened in the story.

Here are some photos of us detailing our story through illustrations.
