Principal's Report

David Caughey

Dear parents, students and families.

Welcome to 2024!

I hope that you have had an enjoyable summer and a positive start to the year.

Our start to the year has been fantastic with students settling into classes and daily routines very well. I have enjoyed catching up with students in the yard and in classes.

To start our year all students and staff were welcomed to the new school year as well as Welcomed to Country at a whole school assembly by Bunurong elders Josh West and Jillian West. The assembly was also an opportunity to recognise the excellent learning achievements of some of our 2023 Year 11 students and welcome our new staff and students to our learning community. Federal MP for Holt, Cassandra Fernando was also in attendance to support our start to the school year – the school community is very grateful for your support.

Our new cohort of Year 7 students have transitioned well into the College and secondary school life. I have enjoyed getting to know some new students and families and it was wonderful to drop in on the Year 7 camp and share a meal with the students. The College has commenced a new Literacy program for our Year 7 students to further support their literacy and learning.

Our refurbished Year 12 centre is completed, and students have been taking advantage of the study hall space and collaborative study rooms.

The Basketball program has commenced successfully with a strong partnership with Casey Basketball providing expert coaching for the students involved.

It has also been wonderful to see the positive response to some new uniform items. The student engagement in consultation on the uniform over the last 12-18 months has been excellent. I would like to thank all members of our school community for their contributions to the uniform development process.

Finally, it has also been very pleasing to see students accessing our free after-school ‘Study On’ tutoring sessions. This is an excellent resource for students where they can access general and subject-specific learning support. See the Library section of the newsletter for more details.

School Council Elections

Each year all schools are required to follow the governance processes mandated by the Department of Education and Training. While the College has a fantastic School Council we are required to advertise for positions annually. If any parents are interested in joining the committee, please complete the nomination form available at the College. If you would like to know more, please do not hesitate to call the school and make an appointment to find out more about the role.

Important information and reminders as well as the above highlights – and many others - are shared in more detail in this edition of our newsletter.

Many thanks and I look forward to our year together,

David Caughey
