Pasar Malam

What an incredible evening at the Pasar Malam Twilight Market last Friday!

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us under the stars to enjoy the vibrant event! Your energy and smiles brought the market to life.

Our community came together to enjoy the diversity of the event, from the aromatics of delicious food trucks and delightful stalls showcasing artisanal treasures, to the exciting amusements for kids of all ages and the melodies of live music.

A special thanks to our talented vendors, stallholders and performers for joining us and who poured their passion into Pasar Malam 2024!

The evening also featured an entertaining Battle of the Bands with outstanding performances by our contemporary band students. The Battle of the Bands competition was adjudicated by Old Saint and guitar player, Harry Winton (Class of 2006). We are proud to announce that the metal band ‘Vortex’ emerged as the winners, showcasing their talent and dedication. Congratulations to Anthony Prasad (Year 12), Jayden Kleyweg (Year 11), Dylan Leeder (Year 11) and Oliver Benetatos (Year 11). The atmosphere of support and camaraderie among our students was great, reflecting the strong sense of community within our College. With the success of this year's event, we eagerly anticipate the festivities of next year's Pasar Malam, confident it will be yet another memorable celebration of our students' musical achievements.

Australian Dance Theatre Residency

We were recently honoured to host Australian Dance Theatre, Australia's oldest contemporary dance company whose groundbreaking work has continuously pushed the boundaries of the art for nearly 60 years. This residency was a first for a West Australian school, and our students had the privilege of participating in workshops and learning from the talented ADT dancers. Through HotHouse Company, ADT also facilitated teacher professional development sessions and workshops open to students in the wider community.

The dancers showcased excerpts from Artistic Director and Wiradjuri man Daniel Riley’s first major work for ADT, SAVAGE.

Congratulations to our dancers for their professionalism, commitment and talent. We are so proud of you!

Visual Arts Excursions

The Visual Arts department at ASC has been buzzing with activity, with our students exploring the vibrant art scene of the Perth Festival. With some incredible exhibitions gracing the city’s galleries, our students have embraced the opportunity to engage with renowned artists and their captivating works.

The Year 11 Visual Art General students took an excursion to view Susan Flavell’s major exhibition Horn of the Moon – 13 Goddesses and their Consorts at the John Curtin Gallery. Her masterpieces captivated our students, who had the privilege of engaging with the artist herself. Susan then visited our students at the College and conducted a workshop in mask making and the cultural practices behind the wearing of masks. She then demonstrated how she works with cardboard and hot glue to create strong structures, enabling our students to craft their own masks.

Our Year 9/10 Sculpture students enjoyed a day visiting major gallery spaces in and around Perth. First stop was a quick visit to Boola Bardip to view the Innovations floor, featuring historical and contemporary innovative practitioners. Walking a short distance to the Art Gallery of WA, students were then awestruck by the large glass installation of First Nations artist Yhonnie Scarce and her exhibition over two floors The Light of Day. Scare’s exhibition sheds light on the effect of uranium mining, drawing attention to the site of Maralinga, Scarce’s birthplace, and the impacts of nuclear testing.

Next stop was the John Curtin Gallery to view Susan Flavell’s exhibition Horn of the Moon – 13 Goddesses and their Consorts. Susan was kind enough to make herself available again to talk to our students about her art. The College, through HotHouse Company, is fortunate to have been able to engage Susan as our Visual Art Mentor-in-Residence during the year. Susan will be working with our Year 11 and Year 12 Visual Art ATAR students as well as our Year 11 General Visual Arts students.

The day concluded with a visit to the Fremantle Arts Centre, where students immersed themselves in the thought-provoking exhibition Polarity: Fire & Ice. Featuring artists grappling with the climate crisis, this exhibition underscores the elemental forces of nature and the profound connections of First Peoples to their land and waters.

It was a truly enriching experience for all involved, showcasing the power of art to inspire, educate and ignite meaningful conversations.

Bonjour! A Cultural Exchange Experience on campus

It is with much joy and anticipation that we welcome eight French exchange students from our sister school Lycée d’Estienne d’Orves in Nice to our campus for two weeks, from Monday 26 February to Friday 8 March

During their stay, the exchange students are being provided with opportunities to immerse themselves in our College’s educational environment and lifestyle alongside their host siblings. The French students have expressed excitement about the prospect of attending classes and experiencing campus life, noting the stark contrast from their own.

All Saints’ students, who were warmly welcomed by their French counterparts during the 2023 French Tour, are thrilled to be able to reciprocate the exchange and to continue the enriching journey together in Perth.

We are thrilled to have these students with us, and we wish them a happy and fulfilling experience at the College.

Disabled Surfers Association February Event

The recent Disabled Surfers Association (DSA) event saw a wonderful turnout from All Saints' College students, showcasing the spirit of community and inclusivity. Emma Bakkers (Year 11), Isla Morrice (Year 10), Kyle and Ryan Stuart (Year 11), Nikhil Yadav (Year 9) and William Thorne (Year 11) enjoyed a warm morning in the surf, offering support and encouragement to an enthusiastic group of surfers. Together, we assisted surfers to stand on their surfboard, sit in beanbag seats, lie on their fronts and even adopt a superman pose – loads of fun was had by all.

Finn Williams (Year 11) and Amrit Jessy (Year 12) also joined in on the action, dropping by in their Surf Life Savers boat. Alongside the students, several Old Saints, now integral members of the DSA organization, and supportive parents also volunteered, contributing to the warm and welcoming atmosphere.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers for their outstanding efforts and generosity. Volunteering is such an important part of ASC culture, bringing ERIC to life. We have a lot to be proud of.
