Triple P Parenting Program

The College is happy to announce the Teen Triple P Seminars schedule for Term 1.

The Triple P – Positive Parenting Program is a highly effective parental guidance program that equips parents with the essential tools to nurture self-assured, well-adjusted children and adolescents. By fostering these skills, it enhances family bonds, and empowers parents to address misbehavior constructively and proactively avoid potential issues.

These sessions will be facilitated by Ms Sheleen Davis (College Psychologist) supported by Mrs Sara Mano (Early Childhood Coordinator).

Seminars will be open to parents of students in Pre-Kindy – Year 5.

The program consists of three seminars on Wednesday evenings in the CPA Foyer.

  • Wednesday 6 March 2024, 5.45pm–8.00pm. Topic: The Power of Positive Parenting
  • Wednesday 13 March 2024, 5.45pm–8.00pm. Topic: Raising Confident, Competent Children
  • Wednesday 20 March 2024, 5.45pm–8.00pm. Topic: Raising Resilient Children

This program is sponsored by the ASC Parents and Friends’ Society.

Chinese New Year

The Lunar New Year marks an important beginning for Chinese people and is a highly valued traditional holiday. Chinese New Year lasts for a total of 15 days, from February 10 to February 24. This year is the Year of the Dragon.

Happy New Year! Wishing you good health and prosperity.

In our Kindergarten – Year 2 classes, students made lion dance masks as a team effort that they could practice our lion dance with. Year 2 – 5 students participated in a Year of the Dragon competition to celebrate the Year of the Dragon. They also learned how to exchange auspicious greetings and receive red envelopes, gaining insight into various traditions associated with the Lunar New Year.

Year 5 Zoo Excursion

On Tuesday 20 February our Year 5 cohort explored the fascinating world of scientific adaptations at Perth Zoo! Through exhibits and captivating animal encounters, students delved into the evolutionary marvels that enable creatures to thrive in diverse environments. From camouflage tactics to specialised anatomical features, our students' minds were immersed in the wonders of adaptation and biodiversity. This engaging experience sparked curiosity, ignited imaginations, and fostered a deeper appreciation for the intricate balance of life on Earth and will lead into further inquiries within the classroom environment.

“My most favourite part of the zoo excursion was when we went to see the Asian Rainforest Talk. My group had gone to the red panda enclosure, we learnt amazing facts about these adorable animals! Did you know that the black and white pandas are not real pandas? The red panda is the known panda, the panda was just to be found to eat bamboo ten years after the red panda was found also eating bamboo. Learn more by going back to Perth Zoo sometime!”- Kristy Shang

“My favourite part of our amazing zoo trip was the rainforest tour. I loved learning about all the animals and feeling their skins.”- Daisy Ng

“I liked watching the meerkats because of how energetic and smart they are.” - Mehar Sareen

Nexus-J

The LEGO cube in Nexus-J has been well used this term, with groups of students completing the challenge of constructing a vertical marble run. The perfect example of the design-thinking process, students can be seen testing designs, rebuilding and modifying their marble runs.

This inclusive group comprises of students of different year levels and some of our recently joined students, are really enjoying being involved. There's a collaborative (rather than competitive) conversation between groups, resulting in sharing of materials and celebratory moments when that marble lasts the journey for longer than 10 seconds! Play-based activities are essential features of Nexus-J before and after school, and at lunchtime.

April Vacation Care 2024

The April school holidays are quickly approaching and we will be taking bookings for Vacation Care. As you may know, we have recently changed booking software from Xplor to OWNA.

We are very excited to be starting a new and more parent-friendly approach to our vacation care bookings. Previously we accepted vacation care requests via email only. Now, however, you will be able to book your children in for Vacation Care the same way that you would make a casual booking. You will receive instant confirmation of your child’s bookings for the holidays; we feel this will be very valuable to our families.

If a day you would like to book for is fully booked, you will be able to place your child on the waitlist. If places become available, you will be notified via email/OWNA app and be able to claim the spot. Waitlists are accepted on a first-in-first-served basis. The spot will be claimable by anyone on the waitlist for that day.

The casual booking slots for the April holidays are not yet open. These will be available to book from Monday 11 March 2024 at 7.00am

Please note that all vacation care bookings must be made by parents on the OWNA app. Email or face-to-face requests for vacation care cannot be processed, and you will be redirected to the app. If you feel unfamiliar with the new app and would like clarification on how to book for vacation care, please stop by OSHC between 7.00am–9.00am and 2.30–6.00pm, or refer to the parent guide HERE
