SCIENCE

YEAR 11 BIOLOGY

Miss Creaser’s Year 11 Biology class visited Gene Technology Access Centre (GTAC) last week to consolidate their learning of the structure and function of cells and organelles. They made observations of planaria under microscopes, used triple-fluorescence staining techniques, observed healthy cells and compared them to diseased cells, then had to explain the difference observed in organelles and how that may contribute to the symptoms of a disease. A lot of learning in a short visit, but great to use some very cool instrumentation and undertake some practical experience far advanced from what is available at school.

YEAR 10 APPLIED SCIENCE

10C students explore how pushes, gravity and the air flow from fans affect the movement of balloons filled with air.

YEAR 10 SCIENCE

Mrs Witton’s Year 10 Science class are studying Newton’s Three Laws of Motion as part of their Physics Unit. The Slip-N-Slide method of learning is a great interactive and fun way to learn these laws, especially on a very hot summers day!
