SCHOOL LEADERSHIP MESSAGE

 PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

The weather over the last two weeks has thrown some great challenges at us and we hope all our families have now recovered from this. Through this time we also saw the very best of our community with people supporting each other, including great reports of our students spending their own time in the community helping out those in need. We thank all our families for their support over the three days last week when we were unable to run normal classes.

While it was great to return to same routine and normality this week, our Year 7s also headed out for their three-day camp to Grantville. I had the opportunity to attend the camp for Thursday evening and Friday, and it was great to get to know some of our new students even better.

School council is a great way for parents and community members to get involved in our school and contribute to some important decision making around this. Nominations for our 2024 School Council opened this week and I encourage all parents to consider this opportunity. School Council meets 8 times across the year, from 5:30pm at school on Tuesday evenings. More information can be found on your Compass News Feed, or I welcome anyone to give me a call at any time to discuss further.

Over the past two years we have built our wonderful new Middle School Learning Hub and Bunji Gymnasium buildings. Earlier this week I was informed that the official opening for the buildings will be on 13th March. The state Education Minister/Deputy Premier Ben Carroll will be in attendance for an event during the day. We will ensure that the school will be open to the community later in the year as well to provide everyone with the opportunity to have a look around. We will provide more details during next week.

After several years of great service for our school, Burra Schools and Shoes (formally Burra Sports and Cycles) have informed us that they will no longer be our official uniform supplier. An Expression of Interest for businesses who may be interested in being our official supplier has gone out this week. We look forward to providing you with details of the successful business in the near future.

Walking around the school over the last two weeks it’s been great to see our staff and students get back in the routine of classes. Our teachers provide outstanding lessons everyday, and it’s great to see students engaging so positively with the work.

Our first whole school assembly is on Monday next week where we will have our traditional official welcome to our school for our Year 7 students. Our Year 7 students will be presented to the school, and then will be presented with their ‘wings’, a badge of our school logo, by our Year 12 students. There is always a wonderful sense of community at these assemblies, and I look forward to being a part of it again on Monday.
