Culture, Engagement and Excellence

da Vinci Decathlon

Ms Suzanne Youens, our Learning Support Coordinator, has been working hard with our Year Six da Vinci students to prepare them for their trip to Perth this week. The da Vinci Decathlon is designed to celebrate the academic gifts of Australian youth by providing a stimulating and challenging competition, run in the spirit of an Olympic Decathlon. Students compete in teams of eight across ten disciplines: engineering, mathematics, code breaking, art and poetry, science, English, ideation, creative producers, cartography and legacy. We wish Daniel Cruse, Nate Hubbard, Ruth Toomey, Mia Palmer, Amy Lee, Indi Davey, Kate Levett and Henry Levett all the best as they travel to Perth today.

Harmony Day Activities

Next Friday we are kicking off Harmony Week with House activities celebrating diverse cultures. Students will rotate through two activities in their House groups, learning about crafts, sport, cooking and significant events of cultures around the world. We would love to invite members of our GSG community to run a small 20-minute activity. Please email me at leah.field@gsg.wa.edu.au if this is something you are interested in assisting with. Students are encouraged to wear their House shirts.

School Values – Commitment

ECC

We were all very grateful for a long weekend after a very busy term. Everyone was all smiles as we geared up for a shorter and relatively quiet week. We were reminded that it is Harmony Week soon, where we celebrate and acknowledge that we appreciate our differences and recognise diversity. We also have the Easter Hat Parade scheduled for Thursday 28 March in Week Nine.

It was an exciting day in the ECC as we celebrated three birthdays: Georgia in Pre-Primary and Oscar and Charlie in Kindergarten. We gave an energy-filled ECC rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’.

Our value awards were for students who have shown amazing commitment and these were awarded to:

Year Two - Pippa Hancock

Year One - Benji Fergie

Pre-Primary: Isla Hodge

Kindy - Avery Laurens

Our Stars this week were:

Year Two - Louie Sutton

Year One - Agya Yeboah

Pre-Primary - Georgia Gent

Kindergarten - Eric Chen

Years Three to Six Briefing

Our Years Three to Six gathering was the smoothest and most efficient meeting time yet. We are lucky to have motivated and eager House Leaders, keen to show commitment to their roles and aim for excellence in all they do to lead these meetings.

Our values award winners this week were:

Year Three - Faolan Williams

Year Four K - Stephanie Siripun

Year Four L - Bonnie Jenkins

Year Five - Samuel Forgus

Year Six G - Quilla Ford

Year Six N - Edith Thompson

Year Five students took out the Brag Award this week, by making sure that their eating area after lunch had finished was free of rubbish and food waste. Congratulations to the Year Five class! This week, the House Leaders are zeroing in on hair and shirts with presentation of uniform. A reminder that hair longer than collar length is to be tied up, and that any hair accessories (ribbons, scrunchies and headbands) are to be navy, bottle green, red, white or school tartan colours. Hair elastics and clips are to be navy, bottle green, brown or black. Decorative hair clips are not permitted.
