School Values in the Community - Student Spotlight

This week we received an email from a local community member who was so impressed with the behaviour of one of our students, that they had to reach out.

We would like to congratulate this young person and their embodiment of our school value of Humanity. Though not done for any recognition, we do invite this young person to make themselves known to the Sub School to celebrate them.

Dear Northcote High School,

Last Thursday (the 8th), I was waiting for the 5.45pm bus at the corner of high and Mitchell st Northcote with my 2 year old son, who was in a pram.

When it arrived a young boy wearing a vest with your insignia stood. He looked to be a Senior student with short blonde slightly curly hair. When the doors opened he stood back and offered me time to get on first.

As we had just been to the vet and the cat cage was jammed under the pram I suggested he go first as it seemed likely he would be faster.

The boy reassured me he could wait but upon my insistence alighted.

Almost instantly he began to exit the bus as an elderly gentleman with a walker was attempting to depart. The boy stood aside and assisted the man by lifting the walker off the bus and offered him a hand as the man stepped onto the street.

The boy once again boarded the bus but lingered just out of the door to ensure I did not need assistance with my cumbersome load.

I am giving you all these details for in a society that is now endemic with the beliefs of looking only after one’s self, it was inspiring and reassuring that there are still young persons out there with the decency and curtesy. A student who I hope my own son will emulate. This young person was a testament to your school and his parents. If you do who I am talking about, as I hope they are a leader at your school, please give them my thanks.
