Agatha in Vivaldi’s Venice? A musician’s journey.
He was our very own Dick Van Dyke as Bert in the College 2017 production of Mary Poppins. Alongside Bridie Kelly as Mary Poppins and Bella Bradbeer singing Feed the birds, Sam Rowe stole everyone’s hearts as he sincerely whisked us on Happy Holidays with Mary and over the chimney pots of London in Chim Chim Cher-ee. Sam completed VCE Music Performance and was invited to perform at Topclass Music, a showcase of the best Music Performance students in the state, in March the following year. Since graduating from The Hamilton and Alexandra College stage, Sam has gone on to study music at a tertiary level and joined the Australian Chamber Choir directed by well-known Melbourne organist and choir director, Douglas Lawrence AM.
Sam’s singing has taken him on international tours and collided him with world events, such as a concert that had to be relocated in Paris following the disastrous 2019 fire that gutted Notre Dame Cathedral, the day before.
I was intrigued and excited to hear recently that Sam’s journey and his study continue, now with Aeronautical Engineering at RMIT. The Australian Chamber Choir has a long association with Hamilton and here is your opportunity to hear Sam perform once again, as the choir return to Hamilton as part of the current Hamilton Gallery/ NGV exhibition, Emerging from Darkness. The concert will be held at St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Saturday 13 April at 3pm.
