Assistant Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,

We would like to thank the parent community for attending the parent-teacher-student ‘Get to Know You’ conferences over the past few weeks. These sessions gave families of Foundation to Year 6 students the opportunity to connect with their child's teachers.

Additionally, the informative PLC curriculum sessions concluded this week with the Foundation Parent Information session, where teachers provided informative presentations covering curriculum overviews and strategies and tips on how to support their child's learning at home.

We appreciate the involvement and support of all participants in establishing strong and positive educational partnerships.

Lost and Found

Our school has a designated Lost and Found area located near the Year 2 entrance, which is starting to fill. To ensure the safe return of your child's lost items, it is highly recommended to properly label their personal belongings. We kindly urge you to clearly label your child's items, as this simple step can greatly speed up the identification process and help reunite them with their belongings.

If your child has misplaced an item, please encourage them to check this designated space regularly. There have been numerous success stories of lost items finding their way back home through this system!

Community Responsibility

At BEPS, we value the spirit of responsibility and honesty within our school community—core values that make our school special. Let's kindly remember that taking someone else's ‘lost’ belongings without asking not only goes against our school values but also makes it harder for someone to find their missing items. By showing respect and consideration for others, we can work together to create a caring and supportive environment.

NAPLAN (National Assessment Program –Literacy and Numeracy)

NAPLAN testing for Year 3 and 5 students will commence on Wednesday, March 13. Information for families with students in these year levels can find more information via the link provided here.

You can support your child in preparing for NAPLAN by reassuring them that the tests are just one part of their education and by encouraging them to try their best on the day.

A NAPLAN individual student report will be provided by your child’s school later in the year.

Car Parking And Traffic Management

Your child's safety is paramount, and that includes the school car park and roads around our school. Let's all be mindful of our speed, especially in school zones, during those busy drop-off and pick-up times.

Slowing down ensures we have the precious time needed to react and keeps our community safe and sound. We request that you use the Kiss and Go areas to drop off your children rather than drive into the front car park where there are many pedestrians during these peak times.

Our Kiss and Go areas operate smoothly when parents move forward in the line to drop off their children, rather than pulling into a space, stopping, and leaving a large space in front of their car. It is important to note that this is not the place to park if you require extra time to visit a teacher in the morning. Instead, we kindly ask that you park on the surrounding street to allow the traffic to flow steadily. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and efficient drop-off process.

Regarding other safety concerns, the council is currently facing challenges in finding staff to manage the school pedestrian crossing. Our school crossing plays a vital role in providing a safe passage for our children.

It is everyone’s responsibility to use them correctly. Let's remind ourselves to use these crossings responsibly by always waiting, watching for traffic, and crossing on the signal or when it's safe to do so, or as indicated by the crossing person's signal when in attendance.

Parents, please take the time to educate your children on safe pedestrian practices. Let us all remain vigilant and committed to ensuring the wellbeing of our students both in and around the school premises.

Principal Learning Award

The principal team enjoyed a special lunch with the students who were awarded the Principal Learning Award for Term 4 last year. Students who receive these awards have been recognised for exhibiting positive and improved approaches to their learning, demonstrating admirable qualities aligned with the 7 Habits and representing our school values of Confidence, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Resilience.

At the end of each term, new students are recognised for the Principal’s Learning Award and celebrated the following term with a special lunch. To acknowledge their accomplishments, these students were treated to and enjoyed a special pizza lunch with our Principal, Darren, and Teri and Edwina.

We celebrate their achievements and the positive impact they bring to our school community. Bravo!

School Athletics

We're gearing up for an exhilarating Year 3-6 House Athletics Day, on Friday 22nd March, at the Bill Sewart Athletics Track. All students from Grades 3 to 6 will be taking part, dressing in their house colours and supporting either Blue, Green, Red or Yellow House. These events also act as selection trials for the district event later in the year.

Long Weekend

A reminder that the Labour Day long weekend (March 11) is this week and there is no school on Monday.

Enjoy!
