Health & PE

This term 2 has again been a busy one and the activities completed by the HPE learning area have again been well supported by all of our students.

Yr 7 & 8 HPE has completed some Health modules with their new JacPlus books to help support this. All students need access to these resources and thanks to our office staff who have been making contact with some homes who haven’t yet purchased this required learning support materials. We have contract with JacPlus PE/Health books for the next 4 years and is also used by our VCE classes in HHD and PE so its vital this resource is understood and practiced by all students in Year 7 -10 before they get to these levels.

Students in Year 7/8 completed a variety of practical classes ranging from Gymnastics, Cross country, Dance and Basketball. They have also been keen to get involved in the many activities being run at lunchtimes both in and outside of the gymnasium.

Our O/Ed program in both the Yr 11 VCE and Yr 9/10 electives continues to consolidate itself post Covid under the guidance of Mr Ross Hopkins. The camps during Term 2 were all successful and supported and thanks to families for this support of these extracurricular programs. Baimbridge College continues to support these types of activities and although it does add an extra cost both externally and internally the College believes it to be of enormous benefit to those students who participate.

The Year 9 HPE program certainly out did itself this term and has made the papers and socials numerous times in regard to the volunteering program it places itself into. Mr Rhett Beattie and other Yr 9 staff have done an amazing job liaising with so many community organisations. The Yr 9 students also worked on some worthy projects at school and completed Level 1 First Aid under the watchful eye of Mr Ian Charles from Pro Med in Warrnambool. The online modules were a challenge to some, however this is the type of learning platforms that many of us all face nowadays, so we need to get used to it.

The exams for Yr 11 Unit 1 HHD and PE were also completed well and results across the board were very pleasing. All students in these areas participated well and should be congratulated on their efforts.

Cert II Sport coaching continues to grow and students have been busy practicing their coaching skills both in and outside of the school at their respective clubs. We have coaches in soccer, basketball and netball. Over 40 students from Baimbridge and other schools have also participated in the recent taster days as part of the VET programs being offered by the HDSC.

Push Up Challenge

Throughout June, we had a big group of students participate in the Push up Challenge. The Push-Up Challenge is a free mental health and fitness event focused on pushing for better mental health for all Australians. Participants complete 3,249 push-ups (or alternative exercises) over 24 days, representing the 3,249 lives lost to suicide in Australia in 2022

Well done to all of those students, staff, and families that participated.

We see this as a great activity to build healthy habits, develop core strength and have open discussion about mental health.
