Principal Post

 Dear Families,

It has been a busy and fruitful start to the term with SJV families, students and staff working together to create a community that really does 'walk together'.

We thank those who came to our thank you morning tea on Monday morning.  We  are  planning an afternoon tea soon and would love as many families as possible to join us. Parent Engagement and involvement is so important to us. Thanks to all our parents who help out each week.

Our Student leaders  also shared some creative and positive ideas with our teaching staff,  during our weekly staff meeting around student empowerment . A clear message of trust came through which was very affirming for our staff who always do such a great job creating positive student -teacher relationships.

CLOSURE DAY

This Friday 20th October will be a closure day.

All of our staff will be completing their First aid Certificate, so there will be no students will be at school.

SPORTS DAY

Due to the cancellation of Sports Day last Friday. We will be rescheduling Sports Day to the Monday the 30th of October. This event will be at school with events being timetabled throughout the day. Thanks to Mrs Sullivan for all your incredible planning to move this special day. More information will be shared shortly.

TESTING

Over the next three weeks our students will be completing PAT testing in reading and mathematics. This testing is done annually and used to inform us on student growth in these areas.  Students in the junior school have also started some mathematical testing called LIFN which they also completed at the beginning of the year. This will also help inform teachers of their growth since February this year. This is on top of their regular testing results.

SJV FETE

The Fete is this Saturday the 21st October from 10am - 4pm.  I encourage you to attend and support the Fete.

This year the fete is organised by the Parish Committee.  All proceeds will go toward the  support of the Parish.

Please note that teachers and school staff are not in charge on this day  and may not be present or on duty.

School Advisory Council

I am currently seeking  expressions of interest from parents in being a part of the School Advisory Council.  The School Advisory Council  comprises the Principal,  Deputy Principal,  a small number of Parent representatives and the Parish Priest.

The Council meets  four - six times a year, usually once and perhaps twice a term.  We usually meet on a Tuesday at 5:15pm for about 1 hour - 90 minutes. The meetings next year will be  held online, or at school in person.

The School Advisory Council  discusses  school operations. Reports are given by the school and by the Parish. On occasions  curriculum issues will be presented. The Council give their views and advises the Principal on important matters and is a support to the Principal and Leadership of the school in their decision making process. Matters that are discussed may  include:

  • Enrolments and Marketing
  • Family partnerships/ Surveys
  • Child Safety
  • Catholic Identity
  • MACS and school Policy
  • Traffic Management
  • School resources/ Capital planning/ Improvements in the school

These are just some of the ways a School Advisory Council can give advice to the Principal and Leadership in the school – there are many other areas as well.

If you are interested in being part of a 2024  School Advisory Council I ask that you  email me as to your interest and why you would be a good representative for our community.   Due date  Wednesday November 8th.
