Grade 5/6

Mr Watts and Mr Ward

Integrated Studies

Term 4, our topic is Bizarre Bazaar. Our students are exploring the impact of creativity and how thinking creatively helps when we are planning, designing, building and improving. We will investigate market research, advertising and the production process when things are created and then made.

We have learnt about The Grand Bazaar, the biggest market in the world. Located in Istanbul, Turkey, the market sees over 250,000 people a day, has 5000 shops and spread across 61 streets.

The final outcome of this topic is that students will be creating and designing a product, building and then improving, advertising, producing and eventually market their item (sell) at our own Bizarre Bazaar market held at school.

Writing

Our key focus in writing this term is Narrative. Our students have written a cold write/rapid write on a picture prompt to identify their key understandings of writing and what we need to know next.

This week, we explored creating interesting characters. Students discussed what makes a great character, some discussions were around the key features characters must have, do they have a backstory? or magical or leadership qualities?

We will have another writing day in Week 5, this will be used as one of our semester assessments. More details will be released closer to the date.

Camp - Lorne 15th November

Just a reminder, our camp is this term. Students will head to Lorne for 3 days/2 nights, camping and participating in beach activities and Livewire.

Details will be out on Xuno this week. Final cost is still being considered due to hopefully receiving some funding to subsidise the camp.

Any questions about camp, please contact Mr. Ward.

If your child is not be attending camp, please notify Mr. Ward ASAP because this could affect the cost of the camp for other families, example, cost of bus per student.
