Wellbeing Wednesday

The Year 6 Wellbeing Leaders Tilly and Halle have done a great job this year working with their Wellbeing Leader, Ms McLean. They created a magnificent Wellbeing Wall, which can be seen in the Chatham School Hall. They were also an important part of the organisation for our fun Wellbeing Wednesday.

On Wednesday 6th September Chatham Primary School had a Wellbeing Wednesday. It was a fun day with a full focus on Wellbeing all day.

The day began with a whole-school exercise dance session to ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling’.

During the day, the students took part in a variety of GEM activities with their class focussing on Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness and Emotional Literacy. This included things like kindness mindful colouring posters, gratitude leaves for the whole-school Gratitude Tree and confidence building karaoke, where students sang along with some of their favourite pop songs.

The canteen ladies even got involved! How wonderful! What a healthy day!

Year 1 Melbourne Aquarium Excursion

On Tuesday 5th September, the Year 1 students went to the Melbourne Aquarium. We got to see all different types of sea life animals. This included a crocodile, turtles, penguins, tons of fish, eels, jellyfish, an octopus, seahorses, sharks and much more. We learnt all about the various habitats of these animals, as well as some other interesting facts. It was an exciting excursion and everyone loved it. We cannot wait to have fun on future excursions.

Numeracy Week at Chatham Primary School

Numeracy Week was held between Tuesday 29th August and Monday 4th September. The theme of the week was, Maths is for Everyone! This week allowed staff and students to celebrate Mathematics in the classroom. Our Mathematics Captains also ran two wonderful events during the week. Our Mini-Maths Talent Quest was the perfect opportunity for students to demonstrate their mathematical prowess and creativity. The task this year was for students to present a project on one of the following topics:

  1. Tessellating Patterns
  2. Number Patterns
  3. Shapes in Every Day Life

Our young mathematicians produced some fantastic projects. These are on display in the office foyer as you enter the school from Weybridge St.

Students also participated in a Trimathlon that was created by the Mathematics Captains. In this fast-paced and exciting competition, students faced off in a thrilling Math Quiz using the popular Kahoot platform. With questions ranging from addition and subtraction to more complex mathematical concepts, the Trimathlon was designed to challenge and motivate students to excel in mathematics while having a blast. Plus, the leader board kept them on their toes as they strived to become their class champions!

Well done and thank you to Eleanor Dowling and Lucy Fitz-Patrick for your leadership and organisation throughout Numeracy Week. You worked incredibly hard to deliver your activities.

Year 5 Day of the Notables

On Thursday 7th September, 5ST held the Day of the Notables. We arrived at the Hall to set up at 8:30am. The whole class was in a rush to set up their stalls. Everyone was nervous and excited, but when the classes came in, it was all smiles.

As each class came in, Ms Twigg blew her whistle and we all sprinted to the middle of the Hall and froze in action. There were athletes, famous authors, explorers, actors and much more. The classes that came in strolled through different walks of life staring at each notable that changed Australia.

After the presentations, we packed up and set up the tables and chairs for our pizza lunch. Everyone sat down in their seats and munched down on pizzas and garlic bread. We also enjoyed a side of chips and some treats as it was two students’ birthdays.

We interviewed a few students and this is what they thought:

Elle said: “I thought it was good and fun because we did not have to do any work except for talking. My notable was Lucy Culliton; I chose her because she is a really talented artist and I love all of her paintings.”

Elizabeth said: “I liked how all the grades could come up and learn about the different people who have done so much for Australia. My notable was Cate Blanchett. I chose her as my notable because she is someone not many people know about.”

Conor said: “I really loved the pizza we had for lunch and seeing what everyone did. My notable was Fred Hollows. I chose him because I thought he was interesting to learn about and also what he did as a person.”

Sam said: “I liked how people did not know very much, but they were willing to learn. My notable was Steve Irwin and I picked him because I wanted to learn more about what he did and how he contributed to the community.”

5ST loved this experience and we can’t wait to see next year’s Day of the Notables.

District Athletics Day

I am thrilled to share with you the highlights of our recent District Athletics Day, a spectacular event that showcased the incredible talent, perseverance, and sportsmanship of our students.

Under clear skies and warm sun, our students ran, jumped, and threw with tremendous dedication and enthusiasm. It was a day filled with personal bests, moments of disappointment, and the unwavering determination that defines true athletes.

Our students' performances were commendable and credited to their commitment. The day is not just about competition; it's an opportunity for all of us to come together, celebrate our achievements, and grow as individuals and as a team. It presents a chance to learn valuable life lessons about resilience, teamwork, and striving for personal excellence. The dedication displayed by our young athletes is a testament to their character and the guidance they receive from our amazing teaching staff.

To the students - We are immensely proud of their accomplishments on the field. I would like to extend my thanks to all the parents who joined us on this special day. Their support and cheers made a significant difference and added to the sense of community and encouragement that defines our school.

Thank you to all who were a part of this wonderful day and for the continued support of our students. We look forward to more moments of achievement and excellence in the future.

We congratulate these students on moving to the next progression:

Intensive Swimming Program

This program provided our students with a comprehensive and engaging swimming experience, helping them develop essential swimming skills and improve their confidence in the water.  The students enthusiastically embraced the intensive swim program, relishing the chance to acquire vital swimming skills and refine their techniques, including crucial water safety measures. Over the course of the five-day program, their enthusiasm soared as they honed their abilities in the pool. It was enjoyed by all with great personal gains.
