Dear Parents and Caregivers,
As we come to the end of another term we have so much to celebrate and be thankful for. We have had many events over the term, each allowing our students to grow and shine in so many different ways.
This evening we have another group of children making their First Reconciliation. We are very proud of all our Sacramental children who have participated with such reverence in these celebrations. On behalf of all, I express our appreciation to Father John Paul for all he does for our children and families. Thank you to our families and teachers for all their work in preparing the children for these Sacraments and a special thanks to Dom Poppa for coordinating the program. Our Sacramental Program is one of the many significant occasions when we work in partnership with our parents and parish.
Thank you to all who attended the Blokes’ Breakfast. It was wonderful for children to share time with their visitors and to see so many dads, grandads and special blokes enjoying the time together. A special thank you to the Tatura Lions Club who came along early to cook the 15 dozen eggs and 220 slices of bacon to perfection and to the staff, parents and friends who helped both with the breakfast and the cleanup. It was greatly appreciated.
Following the breakfast we moved into the Sacred Heart Marching, a long tradition of our school and onto the Athletics Day. Congratulations to each and everyone for participating at their best during each of the events. It was so lovely to hear the positive encouragement and examples of sportsmanship throughout the day. Geary was awarded the marching trophy, McAuley the PBIS trophy, and the overall winning house was Frayne. During the day the Tatura Lions Club returned to cook the BBQ and raise funds of Children’s Cancer Research. Their help throughout the day was a great support and much appreciated. Thank you to the many parents, grandparents and families who came to cheer the children along and make it an enjoyable day for everyone. A special thank you to Dom Poppa and Sally Dickinson for the time and preparation spent ensuring everything on the day was carefully organised and ran so smoothly. It was a great day for Sacred Heart.
Yesterday Year 3–6 participated in the interschool athletics with Tatura and Toolamba primary schools. Again, your children displayed the school PBIS expectations and made everyone very proud. Results of the day are not yet available and will be announced later in the week.
Week 3 Term 4 all students will participate in the swimming program. Each class will travel daily to Aquamoves Shepparton for lessons provided by Aquamoves swim instructors. We will require some parent helpers so if you would like to volunteer, please complete the Volunteer Induction on the school website [must have a WWC] and let your child’s teacher know when you are available. Perhaps during the holidays, it would be a good opportunity to encourage your child/children to be more independent when dressing, organising belongings etc in preparation for the swimming program. Please ensure that you clearly name everything.
Along with all these extracurricular events your children have achieved so much with their learning. Our spelling program has continued and as teachers are conducting the PAT Spelling testing preliminary results are showing very good progress across all levels. Foundation writing and reading has truly taken off during this term. They have also thoroughly enjoyed their farm unit. The 1/2 have learnt many important things about keeping themselves safe, including how to make a 000 call in an emergency. 3/4s have been so engaged in their Science Unit, Forces. Thank you Bek Farran for organising the Arcade Games Showcase. 5/6 have collaborated in teams to come up with a business plan. They will share that tomorrow with their Smoothie Day. Our Choir and Evening Birds Rock Band showed us how talented they are as they entertained the school last week.
Best wishes to Olivia Talarico who will be representing Sacred Heart next Sunday at the Lions V District Junior Public Speaking State Final. Olivia has done exceptionally well to qualify at this level and we know she will do her very best on the day. Good luck Olivia.
As you can see from this newsletter, we have had much to celebrate at Sacred Heart. Thank you parents for your ongoing support and involvement in your children’s learning and to staff for all they do to provide the rich and varied learning opportunities for all at Sacred Heart. Thank you also to our children who are working so hard to achieve their goals and to be the best they can be. I wish our students, families and staff a safe and relaxed break and look forward to seeing you all again on Monday, October 2nd.
May the Sacred Heart of Jesus continue to watch over our school community and bless us always.
