Languages, Food and Culture
Food…well, we all love food, don’t we? Food has an incredible power to unite us just like languages. This week, French and Chinese classes embarked on exciting culinary adventures, both in and out of the classroom, to enrich their appreciation of food culture while practising their language skills. From incursions to excursions, it was a week filled with delicious discoveries!

This week, the three French classes of Year 9 were brought together for an immersive cultural experience, not far from school campus. The excursion commenced with a scenic and peaceful walk to Dee Why's café, French Basket, followed by practice of the current unit being performed in class: ordering food in French. After ordering, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast of the culture's classics, such as the pain au chocolat and filled baguettes. The expedition was closed with a walk back to school, filled to the brim with French culture and good food.

We learnt how to order various bubble tea drinks in Chinese and the history and culture behind bubble tea. Bubble tea originated from Taichung, Taiwan, our Mandarin teacher Ms Yu’s hometown. We had a Bubble Tea Incursion. The tea was sourced from Cha Time, cha means tea in Mandarin thus, Cha Time literally means ‘tea time’. The bubble tea tasted sweet, and I loved the toppings you can choose there is so much variety. I love bubble tea because it is such a refreshing delicious drink with a lot of culture showing how much it has evolved since it was first created.

Today, in French we had a special guest who taught us about French breakfast. She taught us all of the main French breakfast foods and then we played a memory game. At the end, we enjoyed our wonderful pain au chocolat!
