Writing

Later, they'll navigate the entire writing process, from idea generation to publishing to craft a persuasive piece. Finally, while again following the writing process, the student's term will culminate in the publishing of picture story book.

Speaking and Listening

During our daily community circle time, we will focus on enhancing crucial conversational skills, including but not limited to turn-taking, elaborating on others' opinions, respecting diverse viewpoints, and adhering to established discussion protocols. Furthermore, aligned with our current Inquiry theme on Bike Safety, students will actively apply these speaking and listening skills to engage in meaningful discussions about significant bike and road safety concerns.

Numeracy Overview

In maths this term we will begin by recapping students' knowledge of place value concepts and investigating fractions, including finding equivalent fractions and comparing fractions. Students will use the skills and knowledge they have acquired throughout the year to develop problem solving skills for the four operations. The term will also have a strong focus on measurement and geometry, with students developing their ability to tell time to the minute as well as exploring perimeter, area, mass and capacity. In statistics and probability, students will enhance their understanding of graphing and interpreting data. Throughout Term 4, we will also use our daily maths warm-ups to recap skills we have explored throughout the year to ensure students have a strong foundational understanding of important numeracy concepts such as place value and converting between units.

Inquiry Overview

In Inquiry students will be exploring bike safety, linking their learning heavily to the Bike Ed program as well as their upcoming Grade 3 Bike Celebration Day. The term will begin with sharing our understandings of rules and why they exist as well as who creates the rules we must all follow. As students move through the term, they will use these understandings to consider the challenges with maintaining safety while travelling on bikes and how they can educate others to take action on bike safety in our community.
