CURRICULUM FOCUS

We are learning to analyse the structure of a narrative.

VOCABULARY

Narrative: A story.

Analyse: examine (something) in detail, typically in order to explain and interpret it.

Orientation: this is the beginning of the story where the setting, the characters and the plot are introduced.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Ask your child to choose their favourite book and  ask them these questions about the orientation/introduction:

  • How well did the author orientate the reader?

  • How was it written to entice the reader eg. language feature, flash back or pictures?

  • Did the author do a good job to engage you? Was the hook enough?
