Senior School
Year 12 Breakfast, Final Assembly and Valedictory Dinner
Wednesday 18 November was a day of celebration for our Year 12 students and their families and friends. It was a beautiful sunny morning as we kicked off the celebrations with the Year 12 Final Breakfast in the Senior Centre.
The Rotary Club of Mont Albert and Surrey Hills cooked up mouth-watering bacon and eggs on the BBQ which was very well appreciated by the large turnout of families, friends and teachers and staff in the Senior Centre. There was a real buzz in the ‘full house’ of the Senior Centre and we got to enjoy listening to guitar and singing from students.
We all went up the Final Year 12 whole school assembly to the Hall with Koonung Secondary College students and staff and year 12 parents and friends in attendance to view our Year 12s walk down the middle of the assembly for the last time to receive their Koonung Secondary College Year 12 Certificate. A unique and very popular rendition of the National Anthem begun events. Our current Year 12 Captains announced and introduced our next year’s School Captains. Speeches were had to honour and reflect and wish well our year 12 students as they move onto completing their final year 12 exams and to their next stage of life.
The evening arrived and we celebrated our Year 12s and their achievements with staff and family at the classy Grand Hyatt - located up at the ‘Paris end’ of Collins Street. It was certainly the largest school dinner event I have attended, with over 400 people eating and celebrating together. The venue and the evening was nothing short of spectacular and enjoyed by all. Each student was individually presented on stage by the Principal, Andrew McNeil, with their Koonung Secondary College completion certificate and a care ‘survival kit, prepared by the Bacon family.
So many people worked so hard to make the Year 12 Breakfast, the Final Year 12 Assembly and the Valedictory Dinner all a wonderful success. But I can’t help but acknowledge the endless preparations, planning, organising, adjusting to last minute changes and needs, passions and good hearted fun that I observed in our Senior School Office during the weeks leading up to the Valedictory dinner, by the dedicated Valedictory team of Allana Edgell, Glenda Hanslow and Allira Howe. This team loved it, it is a vocation and we are all grateful for their passion in ensuring such a wonderful Valedictory Dinner was had for all involved.
