Mathematics News

Hello Mathematicians,

We hope you had a restful and enjoyable Easter break and are feeling refreshed and ready for the new term ahead.

Term 2 brings new opportunities to build on your learning, tackle exciting mathematical challenges, and continue developing your problem-solving skills. Whether you’re preparing for assessments, diving into new topics, or applying your knowledge to real-life tasks, we’re here to support you every step of the way.

Let’s make this term a productive, positive, and successful one—together!

Students should come to school prepared with essential supplies, including a scientific calculator, pens, pencils, rulers, glue, and workbooks. A scientific calculator is especially important for Mathematics and can be purchased from the school office.

To stay organized, we encourage families to help students pack their bags the night before. Teachers will support students, but spare equipment may not always be available. A well-stocked pencil case ensures students are ready for lessons without disruptions.

We appreciate families' support in fostering responsibility and good habits. If obtaining supplies is a challenge, please contact your child’s Year Advisor for assistance.

Term 2 Assessment Tasks

As we move towards term 2, it’s important for students to stay on top of their upcoming Mathematics formal assessments. Checking the assessment schedule regularly and planning will help reduce last-minute stress and allow for effective revision.

✅ Revision materials will be provided in class, and additional resources are available on CANVAS to support student learning.

✅ If students are absent from class—especially during revision lessons—it is their responsibility to catch up on missed content outside of class time.

✅ Staying organized and preparing early will help students approach their assessments with confidence!

We encourage parents and guardians to refer to the Assessment Booklet provided at the beginning of the year to stay informed about upcoming assessments. Students should also record these due dates in their planners to stay organized and minimize last-minute stress.

Year 12 Numeracy -  Maths in Action!

This term, Mrs Abiona’s Year 12 Numeracy students brought mathematics to life through a hands-on community project: building a Street Library!

From planning to construction, students applied a wide range of practical numeracy skills. They calculated measurements, used scale drawings, worked with ratios, and carefully considered space and material constraints. This real-world application of classroom learning not only reinforced their understanding but also created something meaningful for the school and broader community.

This project is a fantastic example of how mathematics goes beyond the textbook and into everyday life—problem-solving, design, and teamwork all in action!

Need Extra Help?

A friendly reminder that TASC (teacher assisted study centre) runs on Thursday afternoons from 2-3pm. If you need extra support with your mathematics coursework, this is a great opportunity to receive additional guidance outside of class hours.

As we settle into Term 2, keep up the great work and remember—the best way to feel confident in your assessments is to start preparing early. Stay organised, use the resources available to you, and ask for help when needed. Your continued effort makes a real difference, and we’re proud of the progress you’re making!

Warm regards, The Mathematics Faculty
