Year 11 Subject Selection Interviews: A Key to Senior Success at Camden High School

Term 2 at Camden High School is always filled with engaging events and important milestones. One of the most significant is the Year 10 subject selection interview process—a vital opportunity for students and their families to have meaningful conversations about future learning pathways.

In Week 6, Year 10 students will take part in subject selection information sessions, during which they will receive a copy of the Decision Time – Subject Selection booklet. Head Teachers will outline the range of courses offered within their faculties, and students will also be granted access to a dedicated CANVAS course providing additional details on subjects of interest.

In Week 7, the subject selection interview process will commence. Parents and carers will be invited to book a time to meet with a member of the team to discuss their child’s subject preferences, academic strengths, readiness for senior study, and broader considerations such as time management and wellbeing. These interviews are not about aiming for every student to achieve a Band 6, as this is not always a realistic or appropriate goal. Rather, our focus is to ensure that each student is supported to make informed choices that position them to achieve their personal best. Information on how to book these interviews will be emailed shortly.

At the time of writing, our interview team—Mrs Tyson, Mrs Bui, Ms Kedward, Mrs White and Mr McKimm—are busy preparing for these important discussions with Year 10 families. We are excited to guide students and their parents through this process and to work in partnership to ensure the best possible outcomes for every learner.

Formal Year 11 subject selection will take place in early Term 3, once both students and families have been fully informed and supported in their decision-making.

At Camden High School, we firmly believe that when students are matched with the right courses, they are set up for success—academically, personally, and beyond school.

Please note: Students in the STAR class will continue to work towards their transition from high school into the world of work. They will continue to be supported by the STAR teachers and Ms Abelitis (Careers Adviser). There will be no need for them to participate in Year 11 subject selection.

Fast Forward Academic Excellence Schlorship

Congratulations to Emerson (2024 Alumni) who has been successful in attaining the Fast Forward Academic Excellence Schlorship at the University of Western Sydney. Emerson demonstrated a commitment to the aims and values of the Fast Forward program and demonstrated her academic potential with her HSC results. She also performed exceptionally well when interviewed for the scholarship.

We are grateful and thrilled to have Emerson studying with us and working towards her future career aspirations.

Thank you for preparing and supporting Emerson through her secondary learning journey and transition into university life. Emerson’s success is a great reflection on the excellence and high standards in place at Camden High School.
