Year 7 Camp

Recap on Year 7 Camp from Students

The bus ride to Billabong Ranch was noisy, lots of people were chatting and some were sleeping. Others were playing with fidgets or playing games. When we got to the ranch we were excited, it was all very new to us. The rooms had more beds than we needed! In the afternoon we went to feed the farm animals, there were turkeys, llamas, bulls with big horns, and there were goats with kids as well! And geese, which Ruby was very excited about. On the first night, we had lasagne and chips for dinner. Then we went for a walk around the ranch. Some people had very bright torches! We saw the horses, and one of the staff members was talking to us about the different animals.

Some of the other activities were bungee trampolines, which was exciting because we had never done that before. Then we went on the paddle boats and kayaks, lots of us got splashed but it was fun anyway! Ruby’s favourite thing about camp was the geese and the archery. Sophie’s favourite thing about camp was the tractor rides, making damper and orienteering with a compass. Our advice to future Year 7 students: try everything, because it’s not fun if you miss out!

On the first day we did orienteering with compasses. It was a bit challenging at first until we figured out how to use the compass. If we went the wrong way we had to go back and count our steps again. Oliver M went into the creek waist deep and got really wet. It has been raining so it was pretty cold, but it was fun. We found all the letters and the secret message was ‘we love exercising’. It was cold on the first night because Mitch forgot to turn the air conditioner off.

On the second day we went on the paddle boats and kayaks. Isaiah liked paddle boats better, Dean liked the kayaks better. Both of us got soaked by Brax and Chase, they got in the kayak and got the paddle and splashed us with water. Then Dustin and Oliver tried to splash us, but we went up behind them and splashed them first. We got pretty wet but it was fun. The rock climbing was tricky but really fun. During dinner, we had to sit next to different people. The best dinner was the schnitzel on the second night. After dinner we had a campfire, then a guy came to do whips and fire twirling. It was mad. All the shadows made his face look like it was changing shape. The marshmallows were good, we had three each, some people got four!

On the last morning we cooked damper on campfires. Isaiah’s stick burnt and snapped, and his damper fell in the fire. Dean’s damper fell in the fire too, but he got to make a second one. Cyrus’s damper tasted the best. The bus ride home was a bit boring because the bus broke down, then the bus driver had to fix it, then the battery was out, then he had to fix it again, then when we got on the bus finally it stalled, but then it went okay. When Dean got home he fell asleep straight away! Dean’s favourite thing about camp was the bungee trampolines, Isaiah liked the paddle boats and kayaks the best. Our advice to Year 7’s going on camp next year: have fun, have a good time and don’t muck up! Thanks to Ms Hilton, Mrs Golding, Mr Kelly and Mr Bailey for taking us on camp.
