Year 7
Year 7 Engineering the Wind
Our creative Year 7 students took on the challenge of harnessing the wind this week by designing and building their own paper models of wind turbines. They explored how wind energy can be transformed into mechanical power using simple materials and big imagination.
Future Problem-Solvers: Year 7 Innovates with Purpose
Year 7 students took on the 'Resources' project, designing practical solutions using recyclable materials to improve living conditions in developing countries. From water filters to solar ovens, plastic shoes and work area safety mats, their creative models showcased innovation, sustainability and global awareness.
This project encouraged students to think critically about environmental sustainability and helped them develop a deeper understanding of the daily challenges faced by communities worldwide. It was inspiring to see how young minds can engineer powerful change with simple, discarded materials.
Year 7’s 'Mummy Run' Brings Ancient Egypt to Life
As part of their studies on Ancient Egypt, our Year 7 students wrapped up the unit with a hands-on mummification activity—quite literally! Students took turns wrapping their classmates in toilet paper to simulate the ancient embalming process.
The excitement continued with the world-first 'Mummy Run,' where our bandaged mummies raced to the finish line, trying to keep as much of their wrapping intact as possible. It was a creative, energetic and entertaining way to bring history to life.
It was great fun!
Ciao from Year 7! Learning to Introduce Ourselves in Italian
This week in Italian, our Year 7 students have been learning how to introduce themselves and a friend in Italian. As part of their language development, they described where they are from, their nationalities and the languages they speak. Below is a creative sample of their work, showcasing their progress in using Italian to share personal and cultural details.
Year 8
Inquire and Explore: Finska in the Field
This week in Inquire and Explore, our year 8 students stepped beyond the classroom and into nature to explore the power of self-regulation through a game of Finska. This experience provided students with the chance to practise staying focused, managing emotions and working cooperatively while participating in friendly competition. Extra points were awarded to students who were able to play the game while cuddling chickens and guinea pigs.
Year 8 Camp: Confidence, Connection and Challenge
Our Year 8 students have embraced a week filled with adventure, growth and camaraderie at The Ranch, Mornington Peninsu. Camp activities have included the Horse Appreciation Program, mountainboarding, the Pamper Pole, the Giant Swing and the exhilarating Flying Fox—each one offering opportunities to test limits and build resilience.
Evenings have brought laughter and creativity with a wedding-themed fashion show and the ever-popular MAG Camp Trivia Challenge, strengthening friendships and creating unforgettable moments.
This year’s camp theme, Self-Awareness, has encouraged students to reflect, take initiative, and grow both personally and socially. From courageous leaps to quiet moments of insight, the experiences have fostered confidence, compassion, and lasting connections.
Year 9
Science Sparks in Year 9
Our enthusiastic Year 9 students lit up the science lab with a colourful flame test experiment this week! As part of their chemistry unit, students investigated how different metal ions emit characteristic colours when heated. With safety gear and test tubes in hand, they discovered vibrant hues—from copper’s green-blue glow to the crimson flash of strontium.
It was a fun, hands-on learning experience and deepened their understanding of atomic structure and electron energy levels. Well done, Year 9!
Navigating Respectful Relationships: Year 9 Love Bites Workshop
On Monday 12 May, our Year 9 students participated in the Love Bites full-day workshop in the Multi-Purpose Hall. This interactive program focused on the themes of relationships, love and control, offering students a safe and supportive environment to explore important topics such as gender expectations, jealousy, respect and recognising the signs of unhealthy relationships.
The workshop also encouraged students to reflect on how to support their friends, seek help when needed and navigate breakups with maturity and care.
A heartfelt thank you to our MAG Wellbeing Team, Emily Flanigan (Social Worker) and Liz Smith (Youth Worker), for facilitating the day with empathy and insight and to the teaching staff who supported the session. Programs like Love Bites help empower students to build healthy, respectful and informed relationships.
Hope Delivered: Hamper Donations Reach Echuca Neighbourhood House
In the first week of May, Mr Timothy Bowles and Mrs Kirrilee Westblade delivered five large tubs of donated goods to Echuca Neighbourhood House, an inspiring conclusion to our Years 7 and 8 Lenten initiative, Living Hope in Action.
These hampers, filled with pasta and pasta sauce generously donated by our students, were collected during the final weeks of Term 1 as part of our school’s commitment to service and community outreach. This act of giving reflects the Anglican belief that we are designed for community and that together, we can be living signs of hope to others.
Thank you to all our Year 7 and 8 students and families for your kindness and compassion. Your contributions are making a real difference.
Do It For Dolly Day – Standing Together for Kindness
On Friday 9 May, our Senior School united in support of Do It For Dolly Day, a national movement honouring the memory of Dolly Everett by promoting kindness and taking a stand against bullying.
In a spirit of compassion and community, students and staff participated in a sausage sizzle fundraiser, sharing a meal and meaningful conversations. With sausages selling for $3 each or 2 for $5, the event raised valuable funds for the Dolly's Dream Foundation—an organisation committed to educating and empowering young people to build safe, supportive environments both online and offline.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated and helped spread Dolly’s message of kindness, respect and courage. Together, we continue to foster a school culture where every student feels seen, safe, and supported.
