Micro Mathematicians

Micro Mathematicians is an enrichment program aimed at advanced students in years 5 to 10 who have an interest in mathematics beyond the classroom. The program offers a range of free virtual and in-person workshops throughout the year. Students will take part in a variety of activities across a range of topics designed to promote mathematical investigation at a high level. We have new workshops available in July, applications are being accepted until 11 June 2025

  • Research Challenge

    The challenge provides school-aged students with the opportunity to understand what it means to conduct mathematical and statistical research. It is free to enter and there are cash prizes of $100 - $500 up for grabs! To enter, students simply submit a project before the deadline. The challenge recently launched and the problem booklets are now available! Our website also provides a brochure and flyer that you can use to advertise the challenge to students.

  • International Women in Maths Day (12 May)May 12th, 1977 is the birthdate of Maryam Mirzakhani, an Iranian mathematician and the first woman to win the Fields Medal. To celebrate this day, the School of Mathematics and Statistics will be hosting a public talk at the University of Melbourne Parkville campus on Wednesday 14 May. Anyone interested in hearing about how to think like a statistician is welcome. There will be nibbles and refreshments following the talk. Please share this with interested students and teachers!   • AMSI Industry Day for Teachers

    Building on last year’s success, the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI) is proud to continue the Industry Day for Teachers in 2025. These FREE events connect Victorian secondary mathematics and STEM teachers, as well as career advisors, with tertiary educators and industry professionals to explore the critical role of mathematics in future careers.
