Child Safety

Child Safety Standard 5 and 6
How we implement this at St John’s:
Standard 5: Children and young people are informed about their rights, participate in decisions affecting them, and are taken seriously.
At St John’s, we:
Teach students about their rights to safety and respect through the curriculum (e.g., Respectful Relationships, Wellbeing lessons).
Provide regular opportunities for student voice, such as through Student Action Teams (SAT TEams), Student Representative Council (SRC) and circle time in the classroom.
Encourage students to raise concerns or provide feedback, ensuring they understand how to report issues safely.
Display child-friendly versions of policies and reporting procedures around the school.
Foster an inclusive and supportive environment where all students know they are valued and heard.
Standard 6: Families and communities are informed and involved in promoting child safety and wellbeing.
At St John’s, we:
Keep families informed about child safety policies and updates through newsletters, meetings, and the school website.
Offer parent workshops and information sessions on topics like online safety and wellbeing.
Actively seek feedback from parents and carers to improve our child safety practices.
Build strong partnerships with community organisations and services to support children’s safety and wellbeing.
Promote open communication and trust between the school, families, and the wider community to maintain a culture of shared responsibility for child safety.
