Year 12 Chemistry
Our Year 12 Chemistry class did a practical on Faraday's Law, which involved using electrolysis to plate copper onto the 'anode'. This is the same process that is used to plate jewellery and metal cans.
Year 10 and 11 Exams
This week, our students commenced their VCE Unit 1 Exams and next week, Year 10 Exams will begin. A reminder that students' individual exam schedules will appear on their compass timetable. Please refer to Mrs Janceski's letter posted on Compass regarding exams, and information shared from Mr Demiral (Year 10) and Mr Rogneda amd Ms Kemp (Year 11) in relation to student attendance expectations.
Our Tips for Success:
Set achievable study goals with a timer:
Intentionally plan the time you are going to study, and what you will study for and then set a timer to keep you on track, limit any distractions during this time such as having your phone or other devices away or not in use until your study time is complete.
Choose your study space wisely:
You are welcome at the College to study in between exams, or you may like to complete your study time at home. If you do not have a dedicated ‘Study’ room at home, clearing a spot on the kitchen bench or dining table is a great option. Make sure you are sitting in a comfortable chair, free from distractions. Local libraries are also great places to have some peace and quiet to concentrate on studying.
Use Science of Learning Strategies to jog your Memory:
Utilise tools such as: flashcards, quizzing with a study partner, Mnemonics (Acronyms, songs, stories), mind maps, post-it notes, summarising and paraphrasing. These are all scientifically proven to be useful educational tools to assist you retrieve the information you have learned.
Prioritise adequate sleep:
Adequate rest is key to ensuring your brain can function at its best during the exam. You may be tempted to stay up late cramming the night before but resist the urge!
Get up 30 minutes earlier in the morning:
Inevitable morning mishaps will be less stressful if you leave some extra wiggle room to get to your exam on time.
Take care of your mind and body:
Eating well and exercising daily will help eliminate lethargy and keep you energised, and ready to tackle your exams. You might like to try meditation or some mindfulness activities such as playing with a family pet, breathing exercises, listening to a podcast you like or even cooking your favourite meal.
It has been so pleasing to witness the dedication of our Unit 1 cohort in the organised and prepared manner they have displayed whilst commencing the exam period.
Centre for Higher Education Studies Excursion
On Friday 30th of May, a group of students and I journeyed into the city to attend an expo at the Centre for Higher Education Studies (CHES). At the expo, we observed that more than 25 schools had gathered, and we heard from Professor Eva Kyndt of Swinburne University. She discussed many ways to reflect on and improve our studying techniques and showed data from an experiment about the use of AI when completing a task.
After a delicious morning tea, the schools were split into groups to spread out the crowd as we went to each university’s stall. There were experiments, students from the universities and many brochures. Each university offered different Higher Education Studies (HES) that could be completed, and CHES offered VCE subjects at the centre that many schools do not offer.
After lunch, we had a questionnaire session with previous students who attended CHES, who provided insight and information that advised and cleared up any confusion with answers containing reassurance and real-life experience and examples.

Year 12 Business Management
On Thursday 5th June, our Year 12 Business Management students enjoyed an excursion to the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie. The visit provided a valuable opportunity for students to consolidate their understanding of Operations Management, the focus of their current unit. They explored the inputs, processes, and operations behind the Chocolaterie’s production, while also having the chance to create and sample their own chocolate treats. A fantastic day out for our Year 12s!
Our Year 12 Business Management students also ran as part of their Operations Management unit in class, the 'Fairy Bread' operation. Students applied their knowledge of operations strategies to enhance the overall efficiency and effectiveness of their fairy bread production. They evaluated their production processes and were challenged to deliver high-quality, efficient outcomes within a set time limit, while also meeting a range of complex customer demands.
Prep's Marble Incursion to our STEAM Woodwork Class
This term in Curiosity, our Prep students have been on an exciting learning journey exploring the fascinating history of toys. Through hands-on activities, discussions, and creative investigations, they have been discovering how toys have evolved over time, the materials and processes used to make them, and the important role toys play in our lives, not just for fun, but also for learning, imagination, and connection.
As a highlight of this unit, our Prep students participated in a very special incursion to the Secondary Years STEAM woodwork room. Guided by Mr Berry and supported by a fantastic group of Year 9 student helpers, our young learners had the opportunity to design and construct their very own wooden marble runs. This hands-on experience not only deepened their understanding of how toys are made but also allowed them to engage with real tools and materials in a safe and supportive environment.
The students showed incredible curiosity, creativity and perseverance throughout the activity, and were thrilled to take home their finished marble runs — a wonderful keepsake from a fun and meaningful day of learning.
A big thank you to Mr Berry for leading the sessions with such enthusiasm, and to our Year 9 students who showed great leadership and care in mentoring our Prep learners. It was a fantastic example of cross-year collaboration and the power of learning through doing!
Year 9 Around The World Workshop
Our Year 9 students explored diverse dance styles through routines inspired by Indigenous, Bollywood, and African cultures. Each group performed a ceremony for the school community, highlighting the rich variety of global dance traditions, movements, and rhythms. This incursion was linked to our Community Connections unit and the Capabilities Curriculum – Intercultural Capability and Personal and Social Capability.
