Heads of Secondary Years' Report

To our wonderful Hazel Glen community,
As we finish Week 8, the cold weather is certainly upon us. We hope that you enjoyed the long weekend and the shorter week, this week. We have certainly managed to fit a lot into the past 9 days at Hazel Glen.
The cast from the 2025 College Production of Rock of Ages, went away on their overnight production camp. This provided a wonderful opportunity to spend some quality time working on their performance, and also build their connection with each other. We can’t wait to see them perform next term.
Last week the Year 12 Business Management class had a wonderful excursion to the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie and this week we hosted our Preps who had an incursion to our STEAM woodwork classroom where they each made a marble run. One of the wonderful benefits of being a Kinder to Year 12 College, is that we are able to share our resources and staff to provide amazing opportunities for our students.
Our Year 9 program continues to provide unique and rewarding opportunities for our students. They participated in an incursion last week where they learnt and performed a range of cultural dances from around the world and this week some of our students attended the Old Melbourne Gaol as part of the City Experience program. We look forward to seeing you all at the Personal Best Showcase evening on Thursday 26th June.
We were especially proud of our students who participated in the performances as part of the Around the World incursion. Your enthusiasm and commitment remind us all why we do what we do. A big thank you also goes out to the staff who make these events possible and to those who actively participated in the day. It certainly brought a smile to many faces.

With the cooler weather upon us, we remind families that while students may wear either the PE or Academic Uniform, all items should be part of the HGC uniform. Non-uniform items such as black long-sleeve tops, hoodies, and scarves are not permitted. Students are welcome to layer uniform items, such as the Softshell Jacket, as the outer layer for both uniforms. For more details, please refer to our uniform guidelines or consult your child’s iThrive teacher.
As winter progresses, we notice an increase in the number of illnesses around, which is often a challenge to manage with the demands of assessments as we move towards the end of the semester. We encourage students to maintain a healthy balance between focus and rest. If your child is unwell and requires time to recover at home, then it is important that they take the time they need to recover. Please notify the College of this absence via Compass. For extended absences, consider informing their iThrive teacher, who can assist with communication with class teachers.
Wishing you all a restful weekend ahead.
