Principal`s Message

As the days grow shorter and the air turns crisp, we find ourselves in that cosy season where a warm drink and a good book feel just right. Autumn’s arrival is a gentle reminder to slow down, reflect, and embrace the comforts of home and learning. It’s the perfect time to encourage our students to curl up with a great story, explore new ideas, and let their imaginations soar. Whether it’s a classic tale or a new favourite, reading offers a wonderful way to stay connected, inspired, and engaged—even as the weather outside begins to change.

Student Attitude to School Survey

Later this month, Years 4 – 6 students will complete the 2025 Student Attitudes to School Survey. The survey is offered by the Department of Education every year to help schools and the Department understand students' experiences of school. The survey asks your child about their thoughts and feelings of their school, their learning, relationships with other students, resilience, bullying, health and wellbeing, physical activity, and life in general.

Students will be invited to complete the survey online during class time using a purpose-built, secure online survey tool.

Mathematics Curriculum 2.0 Reporting

This term is a busy one for our staff as they are not only focusing on the delivery of core curriculum but also working hard to assess each student's learning growth over the past year, as well as over the last six months.

As part of this process, we are preparing for some important updates related to how we report on your child’s progress, especially in mathematics.

We would like to explain these changes in further detail to ensure you are informed and understand how this will impact your child’s report.

The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) has updated the mathematics curriculum to its new version, known as Mathematics Curriculum 2.0

These changes are designed to give teachers more flexibility in their planning and support, allowing them to link mathematical concepts with other areas of learning. At our school, we will begin using this updated curriculum for reporting purposes starting this term.

Previously, mathematics was reported across three distinct strands: Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. With the updated curriculum, teachers will now report on mathematics as a whole, providing a single, aggregated score that reflects your child’s overall achievement in the subject.

When you receive your child's first report under the new curriculum, it will only show achievement (not progress), as the way progress is reported has also changed. For future reports, you will be able to see both achievement and progress against the updated standards.

These changes aim to help teachers better plan for each child’s learning and make connections between mathematical concepts and other subjects.

If you have any questions or would like more information about how this affects your child's report, please don’t hesitate to contact your child's teachers.

Arriving at school on time

I have noticed this term that there has been an increase in students and families arriving late. Getting to school just 10 minutes late means that your child is missing out on valuable instruction time, which amounts to 1.5 days of learning over a term! It also disrupts the flow of the class with teacher attention being drawn away from the lessons.

School Tours – Prospective 2026 Students

We are currently conducting school tours for prospective 2026 enrolments.  If you have friends or neighbours interested in enrolling their Foundation child next year, please encourage them to book a tour. They can also find out more about the FPS enrolment processon our website.  I encourage all families to enrol as soon as possible so they don't miss out on any important information.

Also, if FPS families have a child enrolling into Foundation in 2026 please fill in the enrolment form and return to the office.
