ANZAC DAY CEREMONIES

This ANZAC Day, our school leaders from both the Scotsburn and Buninyong campuses had the honour of representing our school in local commemorations.

At the Arch of Victory, Scotsburn leaders Anastasia and Will laid a wreath on behalf of the school to remember the brave soldiers who served, including two past Scotsburn students, James and John Lumsden. The service, which began at 8am, commemorated twenty sets of brothers, each honoured with a tree in the Avenue of Honour and remembered by street names in the nearby suburb of Lucas. The ceremony featured the reading of names, followed by the tolling of a bell, reinforcing the pledge, "We will remember them."

James Lumsden (SN 2108), born in Clarendon, enlisted on June 14th, 1916, at the age of 25. A farmer by trade, he joined the 39th Infantry Battalion and sailed for Europe in September 1916. During the fighting at Messines in Belgium, James was mortally wounded and passed away on June 8th, 1917. He is buried in the Trois Arbres Cemetery in Steenwerck, France. James’ brother John Lumsden (SN 4536) also attended Scotsburn State School and enlisted in 1915 at the age of 33. He joined the 8th Infantry Battalion and later transferred to the 58th Infantry Battalion. John was killed in action at Mont St Quentin on September 2nd, 1918, and is buried in the Assevillers New British Cemetery in France. At the Buninyong Memorial Park, our Buninyong leaders, Bronte, Carter, and Jake, represented our school at the 10:15am service. They also laid a wreath to pay tribute to those who fought and sacrificed for our country. Their participation was a meaningful moment for our school community, showing respect and remembrance for all who served.

We are proud of all our school leaders for their respect and dignity in representing our school and taking part in such a significant occasion.

Congratulations Ida!

Over the weekend, Ida from Grade 4 competed in the BMX National Series Rounds 1 and 2 — and what an outstanding effort she put in!

On Day 1, Ida dominated the track, winning every race in both her age class and cruiser class to take out two first-place finishes. On Day 2, she continued her incredible form, winning all her races in her age class and finishing second in the final for her cruiser class.

What an amazing achievement, Ida! We are so proud of your dedication, determination and sportsmanship. Congratulations!
