Term 2 so far in 5T

We have had a busy start to Term 2 both inside and outside the classroom. Inside the classroom we have focused on finding the main idea and author’s purpose in our reading program. We have also begun Literacy Circles, where students using a group novel predict, summarise, investigate interesting vocabulary, visualise and make text to self-connections. In writing, we have looked at the use of various persuasive devices, such as emotive language, rhetorical questions and including important facts when constructing a persuasive piece. I have loved our pieces on rubbish in schools and the negative effects of social media.

In Maths, we have built our understanding in working through the process to solve the perimeter and area of classroom and schoolyard items. In conjunction with this we have continued to build our recall and use of strategies in multiplication.

Outside the classroom we had a great day at Athletics. The students participated enthusiastically in all disciplines and although the weather wasn’t kind, we were all in high spirits. We also practised and delivered our assembly items, and I was thrilled with our assembly last Monday.
