Leadership Report

Term 2 is well underway...

Welcome to the newsletter for Week 3, Term 2.

The term is now well underway with great learning and focus being seen in all classes across the school.

This term we have some very exciting things happening at school.

Aboriginal Perspective Mural

This term, we are so fortunate and pleased to announce we are working in partnership with an inspirational and incredibly talented indigenous artist, Emmarita Brown to design our Marion Primary School Aboriginal Perspective Mural. Thanks to Michael Laing who has been able to secure a connection with Emmarita and introduced her to our school. The mural will be on the main building wall facing towards the asphalt area and will be in recognition of our school's Kaurna indigenous students and community and our embedded commitment to recognition and connectedness to culture. Emmarita will come and work with the students at school and they will also support and help with the design and aspects of the painting of the mural. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity and I cannot wait to get this project underway later this term. Emmarita will be a school for 4-6 weeks to create the mural and we will be lucky enough to see it taking shape before our very eyes.

Below are a couple of photos of her first mural she designed and produced at Port Pirie TAFE.

General reminders about safety around the school

Students and families are reminded to be wary of approaches from strangers, especially when they are unaccompanied or travelling to and from school. If they are approached students should not respond and should not accept offers of rides or gifts.

Students should seek the assistance of other nearby adults if they feel unsafe and should report the event to a trusted adult (parent or school staff member) as soon as possible.

SAPOL advises that taking out a mobile phone and calling police can deter the offender and they recommend the student making a formal report to their closest police station.

Recently, we have received some feedback and reports through to the Governing Council regarding cars and motorists not driving safely around our school. It is difficult to ascertain who is driving and we would like to share a general reminder to our community regarding safety when travelling around the school and when walking and crossing roads. Some of our streets become very congested with additional cars at busy times. This is then compounded with Senior students from Westminster College who also park in nearby streets. It is a timely reminder to check the road carefully before crossing and always model safe practices to our students and your child/ren regarding road safety. The Governing Council is also working with Marion Council regarding these issues.

TV in Gym

We have purchased a TV that will soon be installed and mounted in the Gym. This will help us to display and share videos and TV/AV capability of learning in classes at our fortnightly assembly.

Change to Assembly time - 2:40pm start

Our Assemblies have been finishing up early and leaving a window of time before the school bell to the end of the day. At our Staff Meeting this week the teachers discussed this and we have decided to start the Assembly ten minutes later at 2:40pm.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend ahead.
