Performing Arts

THIS TERM IN THE CLASSROOM...

Students in foundation and year 1 will be focusing on drama this term. Students will practice non-verbal communication and take turns in offering and accepting story ideas in a group setting. Students in year 2 will use objects and technology to create ideas and stories, as well as participating in small-group improvisations. Year 3/4 students are focusing on Music this term. They will use the five elements of Music to analyse songs, play percussion instruments and learn the ukulele. The year 5/6 students will use the elements of Dance to analyse dances from various cultures, and learn, practice and perform body percussion choreographies.

CLASS CONCERTS

In week 6 (week of 20th May), I will be hosting class concerts across all year levels during their usual Performing Arts time. Students will be provided the opportunity to perform for the class, whether it be playing an instrument, singing, dancing, or acting out a drama performance. Instruments that are available in the Performing Arts room are the piano keyboard, drums and the ukulele. Students are welcome to bring their own instrument to school!

Class concerts are a great way for students to practice performance skills, to get up on stage and give it a go. We are not looking for perfect performances at our class concerts, the main goal is for students to build up their stage confidence! Even if students only perform half of a song, or are on stage for a short time, this experience will add to their repertoire of performance experiences.

I understand that not all students find it easy to go on stage, so it is not compulsory for all students to perform. If students don't feel comfortable performing, then they can use this chance to be a good audience and support their peers. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to message me. Looking forward to the lovely performances!
