Twisted Science Excursion
On Wednesday 1 May our Grade 1/2 students visited the TwistED Science Museum in Moorabbin to support their learning in the areas of Integrated Studies, Literacy and STEM.
The focus for our Grade 1/2 student investigation this term is:
This STEM incursion involved students exploring the interactive exhibits at the science museum, designed to spark curiosity. Some of the exhibits included augmented reality to discover how water flows, racing a friend to test reactions in speed test, designing and testing flying machines, using our engineering brains to create billy carts and tracks and a particular favourite, bubble making. There was so much to enjoy and we encourage you to ask your child what their favourite exhibit was at TwistED Science!
Students also attended a chemistry 'Mix and Match' workshop to learn about what a chemical is, to explore mixtures and make observations between physical and chemical reactions, as well as learning about indicators and using them to make scientific (even magical) changes. Students were asked to use only 4 of their 5 senses, just as scientists would, to observe these changes (scientists don't generally use their sense of taste when working in the lab)! This was a hands on workshop and it was great for students to be able to flex their scientific muscles!
On our return to school, students were encourage to reflect on their time at the excursion, using their five senses to describe what they saw, heard, smelt, tasted (food) and touched:
Some of our Grade 1/2s also had the following things to say about our excursion:
Thanks to the team at Twisted Science for a fantastic day!
