Celebrating Musical Excellence

MECS Vocal Students Shine at CSEN Music Event

On Tuesday 26 March, the Burrinja Theatre in Upwey came alive with the harmonious melodies of 36 talented vocal students from Years 5-10 at MECS, along with peers from Maranatha, Chairo, and Belgrave Heights Christian Schools. This collaborative effort culminated in a mesmerizing performance at the CSEN Music Event, leaving the audience in awe.

Under the guidance of Tristan Forrest and vocal coach Antonia Mitchell, the secondary vocal students embarked on a journey of musical exploration, dedicating themselves to mastering four intricately woven songs, including a worship medley of 11 interwoven modern worship songs. Their commitment and perseverance were put to the test over two intense days of rehearsals, where they pushed the boundaries of their vocal abilities.

Despite the challenges, their hard work paid off brilliantly on stage. In front of a packed house, they delivered a performance that transcended expectations. The energy and passion exuded by our students were palpable, drawing admiration and applause from the audience.

Penny Mentiplay assisted with the Primary Choir who also teamed up with the aforementioned Christian schools to produce four works. MECS then had the privilege of teaming up all Primary and Secondary students to perform ‘You can’t stop the beat’ from Hairspray, complete with choreography designed by Antonia Mitchell. This was clearly a highlight of the night and drew rapturous applause from the audience.

Among the spectators was our esteemed principal, Michelle Dempsey, whose pride in our students was evident. She commended not only their exceptional talent but also their unwavering enthusiasm and dedication to their craft.

The CSEN Music Event is a testament to the power of collaboration and the rich cultural exchange fostered among Christian schools. It is a part of a larger cultural program that includes various events such as Theatre Sports, eSports, and chess, providing students with diverse avenues for artistic expression and growth.

As we reflect on this remarkable achievement, let us celebrate the spirit of unity and creativity that defines our school community. Congratulations to all the students who participated in the CSEN Music Event, and special thanks to Tristan Forrest, Antonia Mitchell, and Michelle Dempsey for their invaluable support and guidance.

We look forward to witnessing more moments of musical brilliance and camaraderie in the future as our students continue to explore and excel in the arts.
