P-1 NEWS

Welcome back to Term 2! We hope students and their families had an enjoyable break and are ready for the busyness that this term will bring. As you may be aware Demy will be finishing up next week and we wish her all the best at her new school. She will be very missed!

Prep Students:

  • This week’s letters and sounds were Ll for ‘long ladders leaning’ and Vv for ‘vampires vacuuming’. See the attached picture for the cued articulation for Ll. Students have now been taught all of Stage 1 and 2 letters and sounds from the Little Learners Love Literacy program.
  • Our texts for this week were ‘Tins’ and ‘My Heart’.
  • Our heart word of the week was ‘do’.
  • Students are working on spelling words containing our sounds such as lid, lot and lad. They have also been introduced to new writing books containing solid lines where they practised writing the letters Ll and Vv.
  • In Maths we have been focusing on the days of the week. The students have been engaging in various games designed to help them order the days and make connections to events that occur on specific days.

Grade 1 Students:

  • In literacy, students recently revisited the sounds covered last term through engaging activities. Working with partners, they applied their knowledge in various exercises.
  • During writing sessions, students enjoyed crafting stories centred around knights. They began by sketching out the beginning, middle, and end of their narratives before diving into writing their tales.
  •
  • In Maths, students were learning to recognise, copy and make repeating patterns. We had a lot of fun making patterns using dance and exercise routines, drawings and with shapes.
  • Students recognised that repeating patterns continue on using the same sequence such as AB, ABC, ABB etc.

Important Information:

  • Next Tuesday students will participate in the whole school cross country
  • Demy’s last day is on Wednesday
  • Anzac Day public holiday next Thursday

Take care,
