Term 2- Week 3

Term 2 is off to a flying start with many key things happening across the school already. Although it is a longer term than the previous, it seems that when we take into account the public holidays and important events occurring it is already going by so very fast.

If you utilise social media, please like and follow our Facebook and Instagram pages for reminders, updates and special posts which can sometimes help us as parents keep up with the many things going on in  our children's schools.

Anzac Day 2024

This week as a school we had our first school assembly for the term which coincided with ANZAC day. Our student leaders were able to present a more formal assembly to our school community which included a history of the importance of ANZAC day, flying our flags at half mast, presenting a student created ANZAC wreath and artwork, playing of the Last Post and Rouse and then flying our flags at full height as part of the tradition. All the students present at the ceremony were highly respectful and this was noted in particular during the minute's silence. It is important as a school we commemorate such occasions so that our students have the opportunity to be part of and learn about Australia's history during difficult times and wars. Thank you to all the students for their respect and participation during this assembly.

Year 3/4 Camp

This week our Year 3/4 students were off to camp at Phillip Island and I am sure having a wonderful time. Camps are such an important and wonderful experience for students and although for some can create a little or perhaps a lot of anxiety in the lead up, it is often when the students return do we realise just how valuable they are for self-esteem, confidence, independence and growth. We look forward to hearing all about it and seeing the many pictures taken! Thank you to all the families that have supported this programs as we know and understand the costs associated with sending students to camp can be a strain on many and appreciate your support.

Pupil Free Day

Next Monday 6th May is a scheduled pupil-free day as has been previously communicated. This is a second full day session for staff to continue to learn and implement the Berry Street Educational Model that is directly linked to wellbeing which is part of our Annual Implementation Plan and a strong focus and priority for schools across Victoria. We look forward to continuing to learn and implement more here at Moriac with a lens of support and wellbeing.

Please take a careful look at the Key Dates page for all important upcoming dates. Please remember that all events and dates are also added to compass which is handy to access as well. All assemblies are also added to the key dates, we have had to change one date as our student leaders will not be here on a previously scheduled date as they will have lightning premiership instead.

Parents and Friends- Classroom helpers

Last term we began to compile a list of parents and friends who were keen to support the school throughout the year in a volunteer capacity to help at excursions and events, at school when we have special events etc and now I am also calling on any parents who would like to offer to help inside classrooms too.

Once we have compiled the full list, I will need to formally induct all parents within this wider category with regards to OH&S as well as all our Child Safe Standards as part of the obligations of working in a school in a volunteer capacity. All volunteers will also require an active working with children card which must be presented to the front office for a copy to be made.

If you are keen to help in classrooms, please email moriac.ps@education.vic.gov.au with your intention. The induction date will be sent out once numbers are confirmed.

Prospective Preps 2025

At the end of Term 1 I began to send out information regarding the 2025 Prep process with the addition of some tours this year which will be run by our student leaders and a small informal information session. This term is the time to complete application and enrolment forms so if you know anyone living in the area that may need the information please feel free to pass it on.

Mothers Day

A reminder the Mothers Day stall is coming next Friday 10th May for students to purchase a gift for their mum or other significant female in their family. On that note I would like to wish all the mums at our school a wonderful Mother's Day coming up on Sunday 12th May. I hope you are all treated in some special way on the day whether that is a gift, a cup of tea, breakfast in bed or perhaps a few hours of uninterrupted quiet time. Being a mum is one of the greatest gifts in life, however we know the work, the worry, the mental load of being a mother is sometimes hard to put into words really! So whatever it is you will be doing, I hope it is a relaxing one.

Have a lovely weekend everyone,

Mel
