Goondiwindi Show and Aspects Art Show

Last week we travelled to Goondiwindi and were fortunate to have the opportunity for the Marist College Ashgrove string quartet to perform at the opening night of the Aspects Art Show. The boys were exceptional, and it was great to catch up with our Goondiwindi families again.

On Friday, Christine Larsen (Arts Curriculum Leader) and Anna Wilkins (Art Teacher) travelled to Goondiwindi with a number of Visual Art and DJ/Production students. They hosted free workshops for the local community. Thanks to the following students for their time and effort, they did a great job of representing the College: Tom Grinham, Ashley Kani, Daniel O'Sullivan, Luke Rabie and Ethan Torrens.

Beef Week Rockhampton

We are very excited to be in Rockhampton this week for Beef 2024. This is an event that takes place every three years, attracting more than 115,000 people to the streets of Rockhampton! It is a week-long exhibition celebrating all facets of the beef industry and community.

On Tuesday night (7 May) we will be hosting an event at the Boathouse to gather with past, present and future members of the Marist Ashgrove community. We also have our site in the Robert Schwarten Pavilion (R80). If you are in Rockhampton this week, please come by and say hello!

Boarding Recreation

Mr Blair Whitlock - Boarding Recreation Officer

It was a quiet weekend on the rec front with so many boys heading out on leave for the long weekend. Friday kicked off with another boarder's arvo feast before heading to Suncorp for the Broncos vs Roosters game. With 35 boys in attendance to watch the Broncos against a resurgent Roosters team who were eventually too strong running out 40 – 18 winners in the end. There’s been a fantastic atmosphere at Suncorp in recent times and the boys are really enjoying their live footy this year. Meanwhile back at Marist, a group of our senior boarders joined the silent hive to support the chess teams in the Draney Theatre while other boys created banners for our 1sts teams. Our senior boarders can be really proud of the contribution they have made to school spirit this year and they continue to bring energy and enthusiasm week in and week out.

It was a drizzly overcast day on Saturday for the visit of Padua College in Round 2 of AIC Sport. It was a wholly positive day with our boys putting in strong performances across many year levels. With Term 2 sport well and truly underway, it’s great to see so many boarders involved in the many sporting opportunities on offer. This also extends to external sport with many of the boys doubling up with Sunday GPS Rugby Union games down the road. These boys have been making the most of the new ice baths we have set up in the Br Terence Courtyard. Besides the recovery benefits, it has almost become a rec activity in itself with many boys challenging each other for the longest plunge!

Many of the dorms emptied on Sunday and Monday as the remaining boys had a chance to sleep in and catch up on some extra study. There was a trip down to Brookside as well as the weights room, gym games and normal touch footy to fill out the weekend.
