Dear families,
As we begin Term 2, staff and students are continuing to build upon the habits started in Term 1 around three specific areas of routine:
1. Morning Routine
2. Moving in and out of our learning spaces
3. Gaining attention using a hand up approach.
Routine is an area of our Whole School Approach to Positive Behaviour Support and a universal strategy we are focusing on this year to build a culture for learning. Our students are telling us that when there are routines in place and staff and students are consistent with implementing them, everyone feels safe, calm and can predict what the environment is going to look like. It takes on average 66 days for a new habit to become automatic. Many of our students have already formed the habit and the routines become a natural response they don’t need to think about. They just do it out of ‘habit’.
Our Year 4 Bethany Community moved into their new learning space at the end of Term 1 and many of the students were able to transfer the habits learnt and developed in one environment to another smoothly and effortlessly. When routines are developed and embedded, the focus can be on learning core curriculum in a safe, calm and predictable environment.
Have a great week,
Jen
