ENCOURAGEMENT

BY PETER CLIFFE (PRINCIPAL)

One of the themes that has been shared lately at our staff morning devotions has been encouragement.  Not only is encouraging one another important, it’s also Biblical! (1 Thessalonians 5:11).

Our staff meet each day before school and we have an opportunity to pray for students and encourage one another. I think that this is a big reason why we have such a happy, unified staff at BHCS. It is also important for children to learn that whilst it is great to receive a word of encouragement, it is just as important to encourage others.

We will be working hard to maintain a culture of encouragement at BHCS.

Parents, I also urge you to regularly praise and encourage your children at home. Children need lots of encouragement. Words are very powerful with long-lasting effects!

Here are three simple ways to communicate love and encouragement to a child:

1. Discipline the child. I’m not talking about punishment - I’m talking about giving the child the loving correction he or she needs at the time it is needed.

2. The power of touch is incredible! Take a moment to touch your child in a positive way by giving them a hug.

3. Show interest in what your child is interested in. So many children live their own lives while mum and dad, it seems, live theirs.
