Learning in S36

Senior School Evans is sharing the learning taking place in their class…

As usual, it has been nonstop in Year 6!

Students in S36 have started this term with incredible enthusiasm and resilience and are ready for everything this term can throw at us.

Students have started our brand-new novel studies, something that is new to them (and most of the teachers!) This term we are reading ‘Boy Overboard’, by Morris Gleitzman, and have enjoyed learning about the themes, topics and literary techniques used in the text.

In writing, we have been planning and drafting our very own hero’s journey narrative. We began this term watching Kung Fu Panda and tracking along with the steps he followed to become a hero. Students are now in the midst of taking this pattern and creating their own story full of trials, allies, and enemies!

In S36 we have been learning all about measurement. We have focused on the different units as well as applying those skills in the real world. To test our knowledge, we had a paper plane-making competition in which the students had to create their own paper plane, take note of its measurements, and then record the overall distance that the plane travelled. It was a fun afternoon!

Finally, we have braved the frosty Melbourne mornings travelling all over Pakenham to represent our school in Softball, Football, Soccer and Netball. Each team is doing our school proud showing school values and having a great time doing it.
