Art and Tech Show 2023

Creating Futures Together

The Hill Arts and Technology Show 2023

An event to remember.

The highly anticipated Hill Arts and Technology Show 2023 opened its doors with much enthusiasm on Thursday, November 19th, leaving an indelible mark on all who attended. The library was abuzz with students, parents, and community members, all eager to experience the creative brilliance on display.

The event was graced by the presence of our esteemed Principal, Ms. Fern Brisbane, and Ms. Judy Anderson. It was officially inaugurated by Mr. Khairi Razaai, whose acknowledgment of the country was seamlessly guided by our school's Art leaders, Hannah Wright and Chloe Burley who gave a memorable opening to the show.

The evening was further enriched by an enlightening speech from our guest speaker, Madeleine Mitchell, an Art therapist specializing in the Young Peoples' space. Mr. Razaai's inspiring speech was coupled with the presentation of awards to acknowledge the remarkable effort and enthusiasm demonstrated in the Visual Arts. Mr. Rene Raulin and Ms. Mikayla Ellis presented the Technology and Performing Arts awards, respectively.

The prestigious Principal's Award was bestowed upon Hannah Wright for her exceptional work in the Unit 1 Visual Communication Design subject. Her impressive folio development vividly demonstrated the design process. Ms. Brisbane presented the award and also took a moment to acknowledge another student's outstanding work, Patricia Petris, for her refined contributions to Design Technology.

The atmosphere of the evening was filled with warmth and a relaxed ambiance as everyone enjoyed the musical talents of our school jazz band, conducted by Mr. David Gill. Our community was treated to a delectable spread of finger food, thoughtfully prepared by Year 11 Food Studies students under the guidance of Ms. Sharon Sharpe, with assistance from Ms. Melissa Mandarino.

The exhibition transformed L01 and L02 into captivating galleries, thanks to the diligent organization and design by Ms. Louise Ford. L01 showcased a diverse array of works, demonstrating exemplary skills in various mediums by students from years 7 to 10.

L02 was dedicated to the VCE Arts and Technology subjects, such as Art Creative Practice, Visual Communication Design, and Product Design and Technology. Our graduating students showcased their practical skills through comprehensive folios.

The L Block corridor featured competition entries that truly wowed our audience, making the selection of winners a challenging task for the judging panels.

This year, we introduced a staff corner, where our dedicated educators had the opportunity to share their talents in a variety of media and techniques, showcasing their skills and creativity outside of the classroom.

The exhibition remained open until the following Wednesday, allowing teachers to bring their classes at various times to immerse themselves in the vibrant artworks throughout the day.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the staff members wh

o supported us throughout the process, from the initial stages of building the show to the last-minute touches. A special mention goes to our student helpers, who, under the guidance of Ms. Ford, played an instrumental role in making this exhibition a successful one.

The Hill Arts and Technology Show 2023 was a resounding success, and we are eagerly anticipating another memorable event next year.

Thank you to our entire Hill community for your unwavering support, and we can't wait to see what next year will bring!

A few opening words from our Visual and Performing Arts Leader

Ladies and gentlemen, distinguished guests, and beloved members of our community,

Welcome to The Hill Art and Technology Show 2023 – a remarkable evening filled with creativity, innovation, and the celebration of the arts! Tonight, we gather to officially open this grand exhibition, and I am deeply honoured to stand before you as we embark on this extraordinary journey.

Before we delve into the heart of this magnificent event, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to two outstanding individuals who have been guiding lights throughout this entire endeavour. Our school leaders, Hannah and Chloe, have played an integral role in making this evening possible. Their unwavering support, dedication, and vision have been instrumental in bringing the Visual and Performing Arts under one umbrella. This significant move allows the arts to intersect and inspire one another, fostering an environment of creative brilliance.

This year, our arts department has achieved numerous milestones. The arts have not only fostered creativity but have also spearheaded the development of the important Aboriginal Content curriculum, transcending faculty boundaries by incorporating English and mathematics into this remarkable program. The fruits of this cross-faculty initiative are on display right here in the exhibition.

Furthermore, the arts have managed the Connecting Schools to Indian Community program, an initiative designed to enhance global citizenship and cultural understanding. We believe in the power of art to bridge gaps, foster empathy, and promote a richer understanding of our diverse world.

I want to express my sincere gratitude to the incredible staff and students who have dedicated their time and talents to make this exhibition truly exciting. Your hard work and passion are evident in every piece on display.

This exhibition stands as a testament to student agency, where students took the lead in setting up this grand event, expertly guided by none other than our show's doyen, Louise Ford. Louise's commitment and expertise have been invaluable in ensuring the success of this evening.

And, of course, none of this would be possible without the unwavering support of our community. We are immensely grateful for your ongoing encouragement and support throughout the year.

Now, as we move into the heart of the evening, I am excited to present the student awards. These awards recognize not just creative talents but also the resilience and dedication displayed by our students in the art’s subject areas. These students have truly embodied the spirit of creativity, determination, and innovation.

So, without further ado, let us revel in the beauty and creativity that surrounds us tonight. Once again, thank you all for being here, and let the celebration begin!

Thank you.
