ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY

Milgate Primary School would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land of the Wurundjeri People, and we would like to pay our respects to the elders both past and present. Staff, students and the school community understand that we thrive, learn and live on Wurundjeri Country and we stand with all cultures united as one.

YEAR 5 | MARK WILSON INCURSION

This week, the Year 5 students were treated to a wonderful incursion with the Australian Author, Mark Wilson. The students have begun immersing themselves in his texts and were very excited to be able to meet him and learn about his writing process and what inspires him to find ideas. The Year 5s will will continue to explore Mark Wilson’s texts for our Author Study Writing unit, where the students have identified some techniques Mark Wilson uses and how these can be incorporated into their own writing.

We were so thankful for Mark’s flexibility in being able to come and speak to the students. He also gifted us with some signed drawings that he demonstrated with for the students.

REMEMBRANCE DAY

In Year 3, students have been learning about the past and commemorative days as part of their current inquiry.

On Friday we commemorated Remembrance Day with a service hosted by Year 3 over the loudspeaker. Students shared their learning about the significance of Remembrance Day, why people wear poppies, and the origins of The Last Post. Students also read the poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ and The Ode of Remembrance. The service concluded with The Last Post, followed by one minute of silence and the laying of handmade wreaths at the flagpole.

FND 2024 | TRANSITION WEEK 2

The preschool children who will be in Foundation in 2024 had their second transition session on Friday participating in a variety of classroom sessions. They were all very excited to be coming to the school and finding out about what school will be like.

While the children were in their learning sessions, the parents had a presentation about camps, extra-curricular activities and other opportunities for students at Milgate PS. Some Year 6 students and their Foundation buddies were also interviewed to give the parents an idea about what they do in ‘buddy time’ and what the students enjoy about working with their buddies.

One of our current parents spoke to the parents about a parent perspective and good things to know and do when your child starts school. There will be two more transition sessions in the next couple of weeks.

PSYCHOLOGY AT MILGATE

I am pleased to announce that we have secured an onPsych psychologist to work at Milgate Primary School for two days per week.
