Valedictory Chapel Service and Assembly

The Bible passage at the Valedictory Chapel Service highlighted the importance of how we are created so beautiful and unique in God's image.  The smallest personal details are special and each graduate has their own sacred life story.  We, as a Christian school, provide the seed from which greater Christian faith can develop.  The Valedictory Chapel Service was one of those experiences not easily forgotten.

To me, the most outstanding characteristic of this year group is the obvious way in which they have cared for others. It has been a privilege to watch them develop into young people of exceptional potential. Young people who can go on to make a positive contribution to our local and global society. This class has shown such a deep respect for and connection with each other that I believe will stand them all in good stead for the future.  Did you know that, around the globe, only 60 percent cent of young people complete Secondary School?  So in graduating, the Class of 2023 has become part of a uniquely educated group, and it is now their responsibility to further their growth.

Friday's Valedictory Ceremony was the last official duty for Stella and Pierce as School Captains.  Both School Captains have inspired the student body to be more caring and connected.  Congratulations to them on the significant contribution that they have made to our school.  I was delighted to accept the Year Twelve gift of a framed photo of the 25 year school oval image.  This image reflects all students at GSG in the 25th year.  Our Year Twelve students thought it was appropriate that they leave this as a legacy and a reminder of our 25th year.  The large image will hang in the School to remind future years of our 25th year celebrations.

Keeping it fun

On the topic of gifts, the School Captains were very thoughtful and a little cheeky in presenting me with a personal gift.  Pierce, a boarding student presented me with my own M9 John Deer Combined Harvester, (toy size), a prize piece of machinery on any farm.  My knowledge of harvesters is limited but now being a proud owner of a M9, I can now speak confidently about the features of this outstanding piece of engineering.  In a similar vein, Stella presented me with the ‘365 Days of Dad Jokes’ book which probably highlighted my thirst for a good laugh and banter.  The book will be enjoyed and jokes retold over the coming months.  Thank you, Pierce and Stella.

Mathew Irving visit

This week incoming Principal, Mathew Irving, visited the campus and was introduced to staff over morning tea.  Mat spoke of his excitement of reconnecting with a regional setting, the chance to listen to the community and establishing family connections at GSG.  Mathew had the opportunity to meet a number of staff and students including the School Captains for 2024.

2024 Forward Planning

With the end of Term Four fast approaching, the School is looking to finalise student enrolments for 2024. If your child(ren) won't be returning in 2024, written withdrawal advice should be provided as soon as possible (four weeks notice for day students and six weeks notice for boarding students). The School welcomes the opportunity to have a conversation about your peronal circumstances to see how we can assist. In the first instance, please be in touch with Mrs Julia Bairstow via julia.bairstow@gsg.wa.edu.au
