Book Fair
Thanks to Katrina and Barb for running the Book Fair and to all our students and families who supported the Book Fair. The money we raise from this goes towards buying new books for our school library.
Curriculum Day
We spent our professional learning day working with Michael Minas, increasing our knowledge and skills in the teaching and learning of maths problem-solving. We want to develop our students as confident mathematicians with positive math mindsets and dispositions who can readily solve problems using their mathematical strategies. We explored the key features of rich problem-solving tasks vs maths stories. Rich problem-solving tasks have several elements including being open-ended, providing challenges for all students, and learning through fun games and they are designed to encourage collaborative learning. Rich problem-solving tasks require students to work creatively and give them the gift of experiencing the feeling of exhilaration when they solve problems.
As a follow-up to the day, Michael Minas has been working in our classrooms with staff and students modelling how to embed rich problem-solving tasks in our mathematical teaching and learning. Michael is also providing follow-up coaching sessions to our staff.
Outdoor Classroom Day Thursday 2nd November
Outdoor Classroom Day is a global movement to inspire and celebrate outdoor play and learning, at home and at school. On Outdoor Classroom Day teachers celebrate with a special day outdoors for their class.
Children are spending less time outdoors than ever before and this is affecting their health, wellbeing, and love of the natural world. Time outdoors – on Outdoor Classroom Day and every day – will make children happier and healthier, as well as help them form habits that will stick with them for life. They will have a love of the natural world and will take action to protect it.
On Thursday, we celebrated World Outdoor Classroom Day in classrooms by spending some time outdoors learning.
Student Voice and Agency
A group of grade 5 masterclass students have organised a colouring competition to create awareness of 'clean water and sanitation'. This is part of their project and action plan that they have been working on this year.
Posters are displayed in classrooms and students have been encouraged to enter. This is a great example of students working hard to empower others to make a positive difference in our world.
