Lego League

On Sunday 29th October, 17 students from Uraidla Primary School competed in the Lego League event held at Scotch College. This event involved students creating a Lego robot, coding their robot to complete set missions, and an innovation project on how they could use visual arts to promote a hobby. Students have spent every Tuesday afternoon and many lunchtimes to prepare for this event. It was great to have our largest group of students participate in this event and see them challenging themselves with new learning. Well done to all involved and a big thank you to William Brodie Tyrell and Luke Sanders for supporting these students every Tuesday afternoon.

A Note from Kirrily

Happy Friday everyone!

As the year of school begins to wind up, I want to leave a short encouragement to be curious towards those around us in the school yard, at home, at work, etc! It is a time of year when it is very easy to become overwhelmed, stressed and exhausted (just to name a few), and it’s easy to sometimes say things or do things we don’t intend to cause harm. Perhaps the next time someone says something unkind, or treats us in a way that is unusual, instead of assuming why, we could stop to think what might be going on for them. How can we be an encouragement and source of joy for each other as this term winds up?

Also a reminder about our participation in the Vinnies Christmas Appeal. It is awesome to see our hamper box filling up with imperishable goods, and a gift under the tree! On your next trip to the supermarket perhaps pick up something a family may enjoy eating together over the table, or some Christmas bonbons to brighten up their Christmas season. We are also collecting gifts for 10-15-year-olds, it would be great to see some goodies under the tree for these children who are perhaps less fortunate than some. They don’t need to be expensive gifts, just something special for them to enjoy (a hairbrush, toys, colouring books, supermarket vouchers or Target/K-mart/Big W vouchers are a simple easy idea so they might choose something they like). Leave your gift or imperishable goods in the hamper box or under the tree near the office.

Thanks everyone, keep pushing on!

Harvest Table

Please come and support our Harvest Table near the double glass doors in the main school building.  Our students are helping to harvest items from the garden that can be sold. There will also be items from the Harvest Table on sale at the Willow Cafe on assembly weeks. This week there are some wreaths available for the bargain price of $2 each! Your kids would love to decorate these for Christmas.

We would love to receive any donations of excess produce you may have to sell as well. Please leave your donated items in the staffroom. Thank you!

Maths at Uraidla

Over the past two years, we have been working with students to build a positive mindset around mathematics learning. We know that some children in our school community love mathematics (4 out of 5 from our recent maths data set), but are aware that some students find the idea of math quite daunting. For some students, this is about building a positive mindset towards their learning but for others, it can be something a little more. More and more research is coming out about math anxiety. Here is a link that provides a little more information from a research team at UNISA with tips to assist your child when dealing with math anxiety.

CHECK: Covid measures

Here are the current recommendations from the Department for Education:

COVID safe measures

  • All students and staff must stay home if unwell, even mildly. If students become unwell at school, we are unable to care for them here and we will be contacting you to collect them asap. Please have a plan in place for someone who can collect your child within a half hour.
  • We still need to record all cases of COVID; please let us know asap if your child tests positive by either RAT or PCR test.
  • We will be maximising ventilation by leaving doors/windows open, using air conditioning and fans, and keeping doors and windows open.
  • Adults will practise physical distancing where possible.
  • We will continue to practise and promote hand and respiratory hygiene. Hand sanitiser will be provided for regular use, and disposable masks.
  • Students who have tested positive to Covid must stay home for 5 days from the date of the test. They can then return to school as long as they are free of symptoms. We ask siblings of students who have tested positive to wear a mask at school if they are able, to reduce the chance of infection.

Face masks

  • Adults and children in Years 3-6 can choose to wear masks inside, to minimise the risk of infection; we are now leaving this up to individual discretion.
  • If there is a known case in the family of a child in any class, we are encouraging the adults and children in that class to all wear masks during the infectious period.

Pick up and drop off

  • In the morning please continue to drop children off at one of the entrances to the school grounds, and allow them to make their own way to their classrooms. If you need to speak to your child’s teacher, please make contact through the SeeSaw app.
  • We are now welcoming families to come into the yard at the end of the day. Please come into the school grounds to wait rather than waiting in the roadway, for child safety. Thank you!
