Principal's Chat

Term 4, Week 6 - Friday 10th November, 2023

Good afternoon OLSC families

It is hard to believe that we are almost half way through term 4!  Today we welcomed the Prep 2024 students for their first orientation and gave them a small taste of 'big school.' Thanks to Amanda and Kiah for working with the students in what was a big adventure for them.

End of Year Important Dates

It seems strange to be talking about the end of the school year however it will be upon us before we know it.  There are some important dates for you to be aware of as the year comes to a close.

Wednesday 29th November - Year 3/4 Camp

Wednesday 13th December - Year 6 Fun Day at Adventure Park

Thursday 14th December - Year 6 Graduation Mass 6:30 pm

Thursday 14th December - Year 6 students' last day

Not Returning in 2024?

We currently have a waiting list for students wanting to enrol at OLSC.  If your family is moving house next year and students will not be returning to OLSC please let the office know as soon as possible.  There has been an overwhelming number of people seeking enrolment especially in the 3/4 area.  We currently have a waiting list n all levels for 2024.

2024 Fee Increase

In coming weeks you will receive notification from Jane regarding a fee increase for 2024. The family fee will increase by $70 to $1770.  We will keep the curriculum fee at $400 which has not increased in the last four years. This decision was not taken lightly and has been a directive by the archdiocese and the MACS business manager assigned to the St Andrew's parish schools.   I encourage any families that are facing financial challenges to contact either Jane or myself to discuss your situation.

Terri Cambell's Visit

Last week, Terri returned to the Learning Centres to work with some of the students and teachers across the school. With a focus on writing, Terri modelled lessons in Prep Orange, 1/2 White, 3/4 Red and 5/6 Yellow, while the teachers observed and roved around. Terri then worked with the staff to forward plan a range of writing lessons for the coming few weeks. There was a large focus on persuasive writing at all year levels, except for the seniors who are working on scriptwriting and storyboarding.

REMEMBRANCE DAY

As tomorrow is Remembrance Day, today each centre paused to reflect and remember the sacrifices of those that enabled us to live with the freedoms that we have today.  All learning centres marked this occasion individually.  In Australia, Remembrance Day is always observed on 11 November, regardless of the day of the week, it is a time when people can pay their respects to the substantial number of soldiers who died in battle. The teachers have discussed this significance and the resilience of those who fought.

TEETH ON WHEELS

Please see the flier below for a last chance offer for Teeth on Wheels visit.

SCHOOL HATS

It is that time of the year again.  Please help your child / children find their school hat. In Term 4 all students are required to wear a hat when outside.  New and replacement hats are available from the school office.

Here's a recap of the last two weeks at OLSC...

Emergency Management Exercise

On Monday 30th October we had an Evacuation Drill.  I congratulate all of the students and staff for the calm and safe way this drill was undertaken.  Well done to all involved.

Yr 3/4 Excursion to ACMI (Australian Centre for Moving Image)

The students from Year 3/4 attended ACMI on Tuesday 31st October.  By all reports the excursion was enjoyed by all and thank you to all the parents that volunteered to attend and assist with student supervision.  These events could not go ahead without parent support.

Parents and Friends Committee Meeting

On Friday 3rd November at 9:00am we had our final Parents and Friends Meeting for 2023.  The focus of the meeting was to set dates and plan for events for 2024.  There are some great events planned which will be communicated at the beginning of the school year.  Thanks to everyone that could be there.

Here's what the next 2 weeks hold for us...

Whole School Mass - Please Join Us

On Wednesday 15th November we have a whole school mass at 2:00pm in the Sports Centre.  I encourage all of our families to come along to this occasion.

OLSC Bunnings Sausage Sizzle Fund Raiser

Come down to Bunnings in Hoppers Crossing on Saturday 18th November and a familiar face will most likely be behind the counter selling sausages at the very popular weekend Bunnings BBQ.

Have a great week everyone!
