Notes from the Principal
Performance "Rise of the Steals"
Lights! Camera! Action!
What an amazing performance we witnessed on Tuesday 22nd October!
Mrs Huf and the students worked for weeks to put on the most entertaining school performance many of us have ever seen - "Rise of the Steals".
Everyone who took part gave 100% effort to their role - learning lines, making props, choreographing dance moves! A combined effort that paid off in providing a priceless experience for our kids.
Thank you so much Rachel Huf for bringing your passion and talent to our school and giving our children this opportunity. Not only is it an opportunituy to participate in a well rounded education, but also the chance to experience performing on stage.
And I think many of the fans would agree - we have some potential movie stars in the making!
Working Bee
It is a nice way to begin this week's notes with a massive THANK YOU to all who lent a hand at the recent Working Bee. Our school looks amazing. It is thanks to the help of our community that our school is such a beautiful learning environment. And it was perfectly timed! We had some VIP visitors from the Education Department pop in on Monday. They both live in inner city Melbourne, and were blown away by our location and grounds.
Readers Cup
Please read over Mrs Bell's write up about Readers Cup. Cooper, Mietta, Pippa and Ava were an amazing team. All of the work they put in was their own, with very little adult input. Most pleasing to see was the joy they gained from reading the books and meeting an author. Thank you to you all for being positive role models for our school.
Halls Gap Zoo
Best excursion ever! I was so lucky to spend the day with the F,1,2 students, Miss Gray and Chloe on a trip to the Zoo. We got to see a tortoise up close, and a couple of big, cuddly snakes. Everyone had beautiful visitor manners and asked some very thoughtful questions. It was a great day out for all.
Camp
I can't believe it is almost time to go on Camp! We are all very excited, and have so many activities to look forward too. Years 3-6 students - don't forget to birng back all your forms!
Blast Cricket
See 5/6 page for the write up.
State Athletics
We wish our Year 5 High Jump champion Emma Thomas all the best when she competes at State Level on Wednesday 7th November.
Not only has Emma qualified to compete, but she is also seeded third in the rankings. Good luck Emma! We are so proud of your achievements.
SC Meeting
At School Council on Wednesday, we had some valuable discussion around selecting the acronym for our new School Values.
After reading input from staff, students and the community, we chose the acronym REDGUM. We felt that the Redgum has an important role in our Cavendish Community and represents the strength and growth we want our students to develop.
Watch this space - some information will be coming home soon on how our community can contribute to selecting which values we will list against this acronym.
Student Free Day - Long weekend with Melbourne Cup
No school on Monday 4 November - it is a pupil free day. Staff will be onsite, working on our whole school approach to teaching Literacy, and building our capacity in understanding the new Disability and Inclusion funding process.
And on Tuesday 5 November - public holiday!! Time to watch the race that stops a Nation - The Melbourne Cup.
Fleece & Flower Show
The students will be having their usual games stall at the Fleece and Flower Show. We are asking if families could please donate one or two mystery jars per child. They can be filled with anything that you would like eg. lollies, toys, stationary etc. Please bring the jars to school wrapped up so no-one can see what is inside. These will be sold on the day of the show. Senior students have start preparing and discussing what games they want to hold on the day.
Congratulations
We love to hear what our ex students are up to and five of our past students graduated from Baimbridge College last week. Congratulations to Cody, Indi, Hammish, Emily and Samuel on completing your secondary school years. All the best for your future.
Warmest regards,
Kate Steele
