Get to know Swagata and Lachlan

Lachlan Petrucelli - Primary Teacher Health and Physical Education

What is your role in the College?

I am a year 2 Health and P.E Teacher

What is your favourite colour?

My favourite colours are teal and magenta, the colours of the greatest racehorse of all time, Pride of Jenni.

What is your favourite number and why?

My favourite number is 17 because it is the number of the best AFL player and Collingwood premiership hero Billy Frampton.

What is your favourite book and why?

My favourite, and only books I've ever read, are the books from the Song of Ice and Fire series. I find them very captivating. It's taken me 6 years to read the first three books as I'm dyslexic but I'm hoping to finish the next in summer school holidays.

What is your favourite food?

My favourite food is a Banh Mi from Lukes Vietnamese Deli. I make sure to get one every time I head to the Valley.

What do you like most about teaching and learning?

I love seeing students develop and build confidence in skills that they once thought would be impossible to learn. It shows that anything is possible when we truly give 100% and gives me motivation to do the same.

Swagata Rudra - Mathematics, Science & STEM Teacher

What is your role in the College?

Over the past six years, I have held the position of classroom teacher, instructing students in English, Mathematics, Science and STEM.

What is your favourite colour?

Yellow, evoking the warmth of sunshine, is the colour I favour most.

What is your favourite number and why?

As the most powerful number in numerology, 22 holds great sentimental value for me, being the birthdate of my child. 😊

What is your favourite book and why?

To Kill a Mockingbird remains my favourite novel because it probes the depths of human nature, highlighting the vital importance of understanding and compassion. The moral instruction Atticus provides to his children, emphasizing the courage required to stand for justice, especially resonates with me.

What is your favourite food?

A steaming bowl of lentil soup and rice is my go-to comfort food, reminiscent of childhood days when mum would serve it upon my return from school.

What do you like most about teaching and learning?

There are quite a few things that I love about teaching and learning:

  1. I’m able to help children achieve their best.
  2. I get to share my enthusiasm for my subject matter.
  3. I love the instant feedback I get from my students.
  4. I feel rewarded when that little light bulb goes off.
  5. I get to work with books which I love.
  6. I seem to be good at it ha-ha
  7. I love kids and I love math (wonder how many jobs can combine them 😃)
  8. It goes beyond just teaching the material – it’s about making a personal connection with the students.
  9. Last but not the least, there’s always the chance that something I say or do will make a lasting, positive impact on one of my students. That’s pretty cool to think about!
