Japanese

Minasan Konnichiwa! (Hello everyone.)

Week 8

Year 3/4/5/6

Students have been learning the topic “Let’s Go To Japan!”. This is a unit that allows students to experience an imaginary trip to Japan. It covers cultural study as well as speaking, listening, reading and writing practice. We talked about the necessary items to prepare, such as passport and an adapter to charge electronic things in Japan, seasonal clothes etc. and what kind of unique snacks you can get. They have learnt/practiced the names of some places such as Tokyo, Kamakura and Nikko. They also learnt how to say “let’s go to…” and “Let’s eat… ”. We will continue our trip around Japan until the end of the year and we will even climb up Mt. Fuji!

Year 3/4

We are planning to have an exchange session with Japanese students on December the 4th. It’s going to be the last session this year but the exchange will continue for Year 3/4 next year.

Year 1/2

Students have learnt about “Family members” and now are learning about “Pets”. We talked about popular pets in Japan, such as dogs, cats, little birds, guinea pigs and hamsters. Students have practiced the names of animals, indicated likes and dislikes, wrote them in Japanese and reinforced their new vocabulary with ELLA (Early Learning Languages Australia) program online games. We will continue to learn more about pets including the names of the animals that Japanese people wish to have.

Foundation

Students have been practicing greeting others, naming colours, numbers, big and small animals, likes and dislikes, body parts, how to count people etc. They have learnt so much this year- well done Foundation students!

Students also have learnt a new song called “Under the Big Chestnut Tree”. This is a well-known song in Japan and contains a lot of key words, such as “big, under, tree, you, me, let’s play together”.

Everyone from Foundation to Year 6 learnt in a very positive and enthusiastic manner in 2024! We have had a lot of happy faces in Japanese classes this year.
