Year 10 Advance Camp - The Grampians
On Wednesday the 23rd, the last ever year 10 Advance class departed to the Grampians for our final camp. We had a long erratic drive with a stop for lunch and to have a stretch. Once we arrived at Halls Gap, we set up our tents for the two night stay before heading to our first walk of the day. We went to Beehive falls and enjoyed being close to the waterfall, we also saw wallabies and other wildlife. Next, we went to venus baths and climbed up the steep rock face called elephant hide as well as exploring the view down by the creek. After we headed back to camp, we used our trangias to cook dinner and the boys kindly made everyone sausages in bread. Due to the rain, we all met in the camp kitchen for games night where we played cheater and a heated game of spoons in which Tayla took the victory. We headed to bed for a good night's sleep before the busy day awaited us.
The next day we woke bright and early for our hike to the Pinnacles. It was very long and tiring but the view from the top made it worth it. It was very entertaining especially when everyone fell over during the hike. Shoutout to Verity who stacked it but gave us the opportunity to put our learning from Advance into a real life situation to help her. We returned to camp after 4 hours of hiking and walked to the local shops for lunch. After, we visited MacKenzie Falls to enjoy the scenic lookout and take some group photos. Next, we headed back to camp for dinner and then left towards Ararat for a ghost tour at J Ward where we learnt about all the stories of past prisoners and ghosts that lived in the mental asylum. It was a bit spooky and Hayley got possessed by the French ghost and fainted. Overall it was an experience to remember!
On the last day we packed up our tents for the last time and headed home. We stopped at Maccas for brekkie on the way before arriving back at school at 2pm to end our final Advance camp. Everyone was very tired and a bit sad that this was our last camp but we are all so thankful for all the awesome moments we’ve experienced through Advance.
On behalf of the year 10 Advance class we would like to thank Jev and Alyssa for coming on camp with us. We would also like to thank Jev for making all of our camps possible and putting up with us for the past two years as well as making our class so memorable. We love you so much Jevvy!
